NEED SOME HELP :Curtain Animation

I want to do an animation of the curtains openning. My thinking is that I can just stretch a bone to do that clamping effect and have softbodies on the rest to simulate some dynamics. I have a metaeffector influencing it. Is there a way to see multiple weights on the object at once? If I remove the bone, I get my desired softbody effect… I add the bone and it goes stiff. Something isn’t right here.

Here is the MpJ can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks in Advance.

Crossbones,

Have you look into motion dynamics? There are some sample scenes that come with messiah that might be of interest to you.

Cheers,

Springs (motion dynamics) is the first thing that comes to mind, also, for animating something like curtains.

IF the skeleton system is just two bones(top and bottom curtain), then set the falloff value to 0 for both, which will give you a linear interpolation between the bones(it gets more complicated when you have multiple bones at arbitrary angles :).

metaEffectors on single bone skeletons do not work, you have to use two bones, and assign the metaEffector to the bottom bone.

also, You can circumvent using skeletons and apply an Xform effect instead. you assign metas to Xform in the same manner as skeletons.

all methods can have Motiondynamics applied to them. for free-standing bones/xforms, I suggest using Hold springs.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I have great direction now as to Springs, Metaeffectors etc. I have 1 control bone (for reeling in the curtain) 2 metaeffectors, the bone stretchs and contracts the curtains. Down the strands of the curtain I have a chain of bones with springs. I am so happy it all works.

WOuld you share your solution with us? Scene file or tutorial?
I’d love to see how you have this set up.
