Need help with Fumefx

#1

Probably should have posted this here instead, anyways:

Hi. I’m having a minor problem with my intro.

I have a text that is smoking in the start, but I want a part of the smoke to turn fieryish and explode outwards, much like this effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2SUQP8Aq78

The only idea I have is to set up my fumefx system, turn my fire off and then add a deflector to my fumefx. I added a sphere in front of my text to try and imitate this effect, but it doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas or small tutorials if you may  Please keep them at a basic level, I am still learning

Also, I’d like to know how to ‘‘put out’’ my fire/smoke so that it still lingers and interacts with wind and such, but it stops emitting from an object. Thanks!

Thank you!

Play with the simple source… animate the fuel amount to 0 and it will stop burning, use simple sources with 0.1 temp (so it activates in an adaptive grid) and turn up the directional velocity to get real wind (not uniform fake wind you would get from a wind spacewarp). Do the same with the particle source. They arent just there to add fire, they add fuel, temp and velocity to your sim. Play with the values and get a feel for what they can do.

The way I’d do it is to first do the smoke sim, then run particles through it with FFX Follow in PFlow, then use them as ffx source for another grid, to give it fuel/temperature in the right moment.
