Need help. Hand control rotates in opposite dirction than joint chain.

#1

So I have been working on trying to figure this out for about 4 hours now and havent been able to find on posts even close to my problem.

What the problem is, is that I have a hand a controller and I want it to control the swing and wave of my hand by using the connection editor. It all works fine with the left hand. However, with the right hand, the controller has a negitive rotation while the joint chain has a positive rotation. I have tried rebuilding the arm and the hand without mirroring. I have also tried tweeking the joint orientations and nothing seems to work. Is there a way that I can switch my control or joint chains orientation to make it go in the opposite direction?
IE: move with each other in the end

What I want it to do

Hi,
I think whats happening is that the local rotation axis of the animator control and the joint aren’t matching up. Here are a couple ideas and i may be wrong. A) is if your happy with the joints current orientation. B) is if you wanted to change joint orientation and not mess with the animator control.

A) assume RT_hand_icon is not constraining anything

1A. get a group with identical local rotation axis to joint

	create a null group RT_hand_icon_grp

point constrain (maintain offset off) RT_hand_icon_grp to RT_hand_bind

orient constrain (maintain offset off) RT_hand_icon_grp to RT_hand_bind

delete point and orient constrain just created

2A. get animator control zeroed out but with same local rotation axis to joint

 	parent RT_hand_icon to RT_hand_icon_grp

 	freeze transformations RT_hand_icon

3A. get RT_hand_icon to control joint whether by orient constraint or whatever else.

B) you may want to look into joint orient options and the second world axis direction. The second world axis direction whether positive or negative will help determine whats positive or negative rotations of joint. This solution i don’t think would require any lra changes on the control (A) although i think it would require a bit of work to change the joint orient options (child joints etc)

Nate
