I used sketchup to block out a chair and imported the .obj file into wings so I could sculpt the seat to fit a human posterior. I have followed some tutorials for modeling heads, so I know some of the commands. I have tried several methods but none have worked.
What would be the proper workflow for this project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need help getting started
I would probably begin the posterior support by starting with a box. Then subdividing it and working it into the right shape. Then add more detail with the connect tool. Tweak your verts, keep the edgeflow clean. And you are good to go.
Some Screenshots would also help with giving you some tips. Wireframe aswell.
Checking out what can be done (if you haven’t already) with the magnet options will also probably be worthwhile.
Tools | Tweak … press 1 for mags, eyeball info bottom right (info line) for mag shapes / grow / shrink etc
or any std tool like scale / move / rotate etc - need to be in advanced mode and again check info line for options.
Using the latter (rather than TM) will be better for some stuff because it will work with any type of selection (eg a sequence of edges / line of verts), whereas TM only works on a single vert (+ other geom sucked into the deal by the ‘blue circle of doom’ :))
If you’re not familiar with any of this, mess around / experiment on a grid primitive and there’s also a magnets page here … www.puzzledpaul.com that might also help a little.
