The ā€˜0.tga’ is a known issue for Hash, i.e it’s a small bug that’s cropped up in the last couple of versions.
If you are rendering a single frame, and if it crashes before it completes that image, it won’t be saved anywhere.

Trying to get the hair just right is really becoming a major pain.
I created a semi half decent looking ā€˜wig’ last week.
Since it was just a test, I saved the wig and continued to add small refinements to the face.

I thought I would just import the wig onto the current model, but I lose all of the hair and just end up importing a bald scalp when it is imported.
What should I do to solve this ?

Thanks

This thread is dead.

Should I request that it be removed ?

If I ever get around to finishing this project, I can create a new post.

( I notice a lot of people have viewed this thread, and there has been no progress on my part in months. )
no excuses

#44

Much better then my first one I’m just finishing…
great work.

Thanks roger1o.

I guess dead posts don’t die around here.

Better post something new then…

I started this hand this morning. I know … I should have just used a displacement map.

I plead insanity.

BTW This is not supposed to be offensive in any way … I just haven’t gotten around to adding the other fingers yet.

Well folks, after ā€˜tearing my hair out’ trying to figure out how to style my models hair, I have decided to go back to what I had originally … just an all too common ā€˜Pixie’ cut.
Here is a W.I.P. test of her with the hairdo.

I’m going to do a ā€˜punk’ version of her with the nose/tongue ring and all, but I’ll also do one without the accesories.

Do you think she would look better with a braid in back like in the sketch above ?

BTW, I took a break from my Rachael model and have also been working on a model of a car that I wish they would build in real life. ( It is also being done in A:M. )
Here is a pic. http://www.geocities.com/cgreality/GTXXX.jpg Let me know your opinions on it.

#47

Now that you have textured her, she’s gaining some real personality. The hair looks good and I reckon judging from your braid sketch, it’s worth pursuing that too.
Can’t believe you’ve actually modelled the creases in that hand  It does look great though, but I would have stuck to bump maps and therefore given myself an easier time when it came to rigging. I suspect your motivation isn’t animation… aye?

#48

This is some really strong work. And yes, you are insane for modelling the hand like that. It looks great though. Don’t worry about this thread not dying as it is good to have around.

#49

Bravo Vegan! Cool women!!! Exellent hair. Is this decal bitmap or particle hair?

#50

LOL, if I didn’t know you knew what you were doing I would give you the Ole ā€œEconomy of Splinesā€ speech. It’s still looking great. And that car is sweet.

#51

Thanks folks !

I realize that modelling the creases in the hand was … crazy … but I’m a detail freak.

Now that I have all of the main geometry shaped in the way that the skin would actually move, I can begin deleting splinage and form a low ( er ) patch version of the same hand for use in animation.

( I have yet to animate a simple ball bouncing though … so animation will come much later . )

Actually, this high patch count model will serve as a ā€˜primitive’ of sorts to create other characters.

I find that it is easier for me to delete details in a model vs. add them later.

( And … hey … I was bored. )

BTW, I do not intend to animate ā€˜Rachael’, but I am building her with the possibility of doing so in the future.

Could you folks also give me advice on my car design as well ? I wanted a combination retro/futuristic look.
I loathe the ā€˜return of the box’ in automotive styling, and this was my counter strike against it.
The car was meant to suggest the styling of a 1971 Dodge Challenger, 1971 GTX, and a bit of Ferrari thrown in as well. How can I make the car more retro-modern looking without getting boxy ?
I’d start a new thread on it, but I’m not sure if I’m going to finish it anytime soon.

Serg2 : Thanks ! The hair is blend of the new hair and the last version ( 10.5 ) hair ( which had a clumpiness feature ).

#52

You must have just posted.

Glad you like the car. What would you change on it ?

Actually, I don’t have a clue what I doing. :scream:

#53

Nice! Yeah, the hair is really giving her personality. She looks hauntingly like Fairuza Balk! Really great job, it’s been fun watching her develop.

#54

YEEESSSS !
I used Fairuza as one of my sources of inspiration.

#55

My god, she really does look like she could be, like, Fairuza’s sister. I mean, they’re not identical, but definitely related.

Your model is so sexy I had to add one crit:

In the ponytail pic, her lips look a lot fatter than in the modeled glasses pic. I don’t know if it’s an illusion or if it’s due to how you set the camera up or something, but the fatter lips rock. You should totally play that up a little. Not in a ā€œLara Croftā€ way, but enough to separate your model from Fairuza a little more.

And I agree that you should look up the pony tail thing. I know that Hash has elastics you can use to tie hairs together, so the addition shouldn’t be too hard for someone who’s built something so complex already.

Oh, also, I find adding detail to be more difficult as well. Plus, you could take your high-res models, render them from angles, and assemble bump maps that way with photoshop. It’d at least be a good starting point.

(BTW, I have only a passing familiarity with Hash, as I’ve yet to buy it and only get to play with it at a friend’s house, but you seem to really be putting it through its paces.)

#56

Thanks kattkierr !

#57

Elastics is also a Canadian term used for rubber bands (they use that over in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, across the river from us wacky Americans here in Detroit). Maybe that’s what he means?

HA! Shimatta! I am discovered! (^o^)/

Actually I lived in Canada for 9 years, the formative years IMO, so I guess some of my lingo swings that way. But I’d never have considered ā€œhair elasticā€ to be a Canadian thing! * notes that away *

I can’t find the tutorial right now, but there was a way to constrain hair into braids using, I believe, other splines. I’m not quite that advanced yet (I just figured out hooks ^-^; ), so you might want to do a search on the net for things like hair +braid or hair +tie or even hair +elastic. ^-^ I unfortunately don’t recall the name of the feature, but perhaps someone else on this board could help you with that…?

#59

Aha! Thought so!
