nCloth pinching

#1

Not sure this is the right forum to ask but hopefully someone can help

I’m still very much in the early stages of learning nCloth but I’m trying to add a coat to a character in a scene in which the animation has already been done.

I’m still trying to get the cloth to sit nicely in frame one so have set up an animation bringing the character from his initial T pose to the position of frame 1

The problem I’m getting (and have thus far been unable to fix) is that towards the end of the movement towards the first “scene frame” the coat is pinching pretty and intersecting itslef around the armpit.

Here is the frame just before the pinching

and the frame after

So far I have tried upping the substeps and max collision iterations, and adding push out values both which have done nothing to the solve.

I’m using a loly poly nCloth object with a high poly mesh following the nCloth with a wrap deformer. To fix the wrists I think I need to delete some faces from around there because they’re doubled up but this pinching is leaving me dumbstruck.

Here is an image of the low poly object that has the nCloth applied to it

Any help or advice would be a huge help

Yes absolutly you will need to cleanup that driver mesh to not have those wrist loops. Consider it a singlesided version of the cloth you want to sim. When I do this, I sometimes even leave the collars out, depending on the model.

You’ll also need many many more polys in your driver mesh. There is not enoguh there to be reliable solved, or collided. Smooth it at least 2 iterations.

If you can, I would convert the driver mesh to a delaunay mesh as well. youll get much nicer folds, like this.
