artists selling work for money! what is the world coming to!
/end sarcasm
What you guys say sounds of course very logical to me and maybe I’m really still too young to get over this issue, I don’t have to feed my wife and kids, I’m still studying, I’m not married, so I maybe really have a kind of “romantic, naive attitude”, but selling my work, so someone can turn it into “The crazy frog” would make me kinda sad. Honestly.
Is it really all for the money? Are you really digital artists, because you always thought that you could make big bucks out of it or was it the imagination that you could someday realize your dream that drove you? Of course, money is always a big, big issue, but if I can avoid stuff like that, I would.
I don’t want to rant about Victor, he’s for sure a great animator, but seeing his work becoming the next “Crazy frog” makes me sad. Call me naive, call me an idiot, but I just can’t be as hard-boiled as some of you guys might be.
This is a “business”. Not a colouring book fan club. Not all of us are fortunate to be born as billionaire babies. You make it sound like it’s wrong to make money from art.
That’s not what I was trying to say, I think it’s great to make money from art, it’s vital to make a living from art. But as someone who knows something about art, would you hang the Mona Lisa into the Louvre or into the next local comfort station?
The guy has every right to sell his artwork as he sees fit. It can help promote his work which in turn could help him create even better work.
Man I am just digging those cool lyrics…repeat after me

I think the issue Thomas has (I’m interpreting this, correct me if I’m wrong) might be along the lines of where you personally draw the line of whom to sell your artwork… would you sell it to a pr0n company? or someone who does silly things with your work? where is you personal line where you say “I’m not working for this person. I’m not making art for them, even if they pay me”… unfortunately not many people do have that choice.
Although, personally, I would not work for publishers doing nationalist/racist content or p0rn companies, even if the business is perfectly legal that they offer me. (not that I have ever been approached by such people). Then again, a silly music video is an entirely different thing - it doesn’t hurt anyone really. mostly harmless
I’m a student, I’m not married, I don’t any mouths to feed but I still know how it all works. You WILL need money if you are to achieve your dreams.
But you’re entitled to your own opinion, and so is he (Navone).
Mona who?
Why should you care about other people’s business. How were you involved? And what did you lost from other artist decisions?
This thread sounds more like bickering then constructive concern. But that’s just me.
Man, I’m aware of that, I think Kwramm just made my point a lot clearer. I’d also produce shit for money if I’d have to pay the bills, I just didn’t know that he sold this stuff so long ago. Maybe he also had to pay the bills back then and didn’t have the choice. The question is if you’d also do it if you would have the choice, just for the sake of money?
I’m not a “born billionaire” as some guy here already “pointed out” and at the moment, I’m definitely everything except rich, but there are still things that I wouldn’t do to earn money. And annying people with something like that is just against everything I’m working for.
But you’re entitled to your own opinion, and so is he (Navone).
Well, so you think it’s a good thing that we see Navones model for ringtone ads in the future? What’s next? A Stahlberg babe as a Handy-Display Logo for 1.99EUR? I don’t want to see this kind of stupidity and I’m not supporting this kind of stuff - I’d rather have two jobs simultaneously, crunching, rather than having this one job that really brings me down and maybe even burns me out after some time.
If you don’t care about this stuff, it’s perfectly alright with me, I just wanted to say that I’m not into this and I wouldn’t support ringtone crap.
Man, you’re tense. Cool down.
This forum is meant for discussing stuff, isn’t it? So either join the discussion or don’t discuss at all.
Im always cool
And I was discussing stuff. It may not be “widely” acceptable but then again, so is this thread.
And please don’t tell me what to do. It would fail the spirit of this forum
Why not? If someone pays for it, why not doing it? Damn finally comes some quality into these areas and you are worrying about it? Well i’m not buying such stuff because i really don’t need it, but well it’s getting “worth” the prize, is it better to sell those kids shit for their money?
Hey Neox,
Well, I haven’t seen it from that point of view as of yet, but I also think that you really haven’t seen the animation yet - It’s incredibly bad, you see this guy wiggling around, stepped animation curves and cycles copied over and over again, really bad stuff.
I don’t think that they’re getting better quality now, not at all. They’re just killing another “well-known CG Character”.
