Navone selling his "Aliensong" Model for teenie-band trash!

#36

Man, I’m aware of that, I think Kwramm just made my point a lot clearer. I’d also produce shit for money if I’d have to pay the bills, I just didn’t know that he sold this stuff so long ago. Maybe he also had to pay the bills back then and didn’t have the choice. The question is if you’d also do it if you would have the choice, just for the sake of money?

I’m not a “born billionaire” as some guy here already “pointed out” and at the moment, I’m definitely everything except rich, but there are still things that I wouldn’t do to earn money. And annying people with something like that is just against everything I’m working for.

But you’re entitled to your own opinion, and so is he (Navone).

Well, so you think it’s a good thing that we see Navones model for ringtone ads in the future? What’s next? A Stahlberg babe as a Handy-Display Logo for 1.99EUR? I don’t want to see this kind of stupidity and I’m not supporting this kind of stuff - I’d rather have two jobs simultaneously, crunching, rather than having this one job that really brings me down and maybe even burns me out after some time.

If you don’t care about this stuff, it’s perfectly alright with me, I just wanted to say that I’m not into this and I wouldn’t support ringtone crap.

Man, you’re tense. Cool down.

This forum is meant for discussing stuff, isn’t it? So either join the discussion or don’t discuss at all.

#38

Im always cool

And I was discussing stuff. It may not be “widely” acceptable but then again, so is this thread.

And please don’t tell me what to do. It would fail the spirit of this forum

#39

Why not? If someone pays for it, why not doing it? Damn finally comes some quality into these areas and you are worrying about it? Well i’m not buying such stuff because i really don’t need it, but well it’s getting “worth” the prize, is it better to sell those kids shit for their money?

#40

Hey Neox,

Well, I haven’t seen it from that point of view as of yet, but I also think that you really haven’t seen the animation yet - It’s incredibly bad, you see this guy wiggling around, stepped animation curves and cycles copied over and over again, really bad stuff.

I don’t think that they’re getting better quality now, not at all. They’re just killing another “well-known CG Character”.

#41

ROFLMAO I want one of those!!!

#42

Morality is a luxury. The whole idea is to make what you can and sell it for whatever you can get so you can finance the continuation of your real work. Many of us are making things professionaly that arn’t in our dream field,… just to keep going.

Ring tone worries are pretty chicken feed if you ask me. Navarone sold the character for a good price, retained the rights to use it for personal promotion and got a job at a high ranking studio. Follow that act.

If anything it should prove to you that a character is only a part of the story and that the person pulling the strings is an interhral ingredient if you detest the animation so much.

Knock about the real world a bit and you will whistle a different tune,… er only if you are driven by your passion for 3d.

No but this is.

You’re so wrong. ABBA weren’t teens, they weren’t recruited marionettes, they were hardworking musicians who met and decided to form a band. They wrote ALL their own material and no one told them what to do. Their songwriter team have been compared to John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Just a shame they never found a lyrics writer who didn’t suck. Just listen to ‘Chess’ to hear what they could do with good lyrics.

Leigh and Imashination: what in the name of the Easterbunny are you two talking about??
Are you referring to Dave in ‘2001’? Who is Papalazarous (I did a search, found nothing)? Why is that Al Jolson minstrelshow T-shirt funny?

#44

I agree about ABBA, Steven. I actually love ABBA.

And as for what myself and Mash are talking about… it’s the funniest TV show of all time.

#46

but we dont have singing mona lisas… or do we? well its certainly not on my cell fone, not that I own one, but if I did, you can rest assured it wouldn’t be on it!

Anyways, I personally wouldn’t sell my stuff for blood money… well maybe I would because money… made out of blood… Ohhh I’d pay to see that! :bounce:

Wow,
I’m suprised this is popping up now.

This happended a LONG time ago. Victor sold the rights to some company (German based).

I’m pretty sure that it was Pre-Pixar too.

maybe he will pop in and clarify this.

I don’t want to burst your bubble, but in my opinion there is more jobs out there which are not so glamorous than super great big artistic jobs.

Often you will produce things you don’t really like and you will never know what will happen to your work at the end, because we all selling rights to our work to earn money. Yes, in the end it is about selling rights, this is where money is coming from.

Unless you are very high in food chain you will probably have as much artistic freedom as ice cream guy across the street. What we can do is keep our fingers crossed (and actively help the luck) that we will have privilege to work with great artists or at least people with a clue and who we respect as our directors/supervisors/whatever instead of some marketing dumbass from ad agency teaching you how to animate for example.

The most important thing though is to be able to produce things as good as possible even under direction of previously mentioned dumbass, without whinning and moaning about how big artists we are, don’t lose the passion and still give the best out of you, even if the work you have to create isn’t your “dream” and will be sold to telephone company to be used as a logo.

I’m only a hobbyist in this game, but even I know, you have to decide if you want to make a living out of this, or pursue it as “art for art’s sake” in the hope that someone likes your vision and buys it.
Otherwise, no matter where you go, you WILL be doing work for people that do not share your idealism. You will be expected to produce what they want, no matter how 3rd rate or tacky it seems to you. Bills to pay means you cannot afford to be otherwise.
As someone else has already suggested, morality about who you sell your work to is sometimes a luxury you just can’t afford.

If you expect people to only produce work of a certain style and sell under certain conditions to certain people, you just slashed your possible market to bits.
Let’s be totally clear about this, be it a peice of 3D work, a painted commission, a piece of code or a kitchen chair, you are working for the client in order to keep in business and make money.
Or you could choose the “starving artist” route and suffer for your work…oh the inhumanity
(Of course, you then need to grow a goatee, wear black jumpers and become suitably obscure :stuck_out_tongue: )

Hmm, another thought, you may sell your work to someone, but what’s to stop them selling it on to a third party you may not like? Not a thing if such an agreement is in your contract giving them rights to the work.

Extreme idealism is not practical.

It is a music band for God’s sake, they aren’t killing innocent people, murdering whales, or secretly meeting in a dark alley with no underwear… or are they!!! (Ahhh their sound is killing me drops dead)

So, before anyone does, I’ll ask this cliche question:
How do you draw the line? LOL

Well it is simple. If it bleeds, we can kill it! Uh, sorry, that was a movie flashback…

Anyway, back on topic, he obviously hasn’t sold his soul. Not even one auror of it (a typical human soul avarages at about 390 aurors). He just made some money out of his work, and by the end of the day, no one gets hurt. Heck, he might even like their music. It is not even like Sting letting people do some disgusting hip hop versions of his songs and even contributing to it, but that even is debatable.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not going to sell my Hayrettin (my nude male model:) ) to a virtual homo-erotic movie (unless he plays an active role, lol)… You get the point.

If you are serious then I think it is really a very personal evaluation with many grey areas in between. I wouldn’t hesitate to design weapons for a game but I would refuse to use my design experience to design a real weapon,… sounds hypocritical, but thats a personal standpoint.

#53

I didn’t require a particular answer, but your answer is a good one indeed. It all boils down to “personal”. However, we even do not have to depend on “it is a personal choice, he has the right to do so” logic to say what he did was not wrong, in this particular issue. Majority will agree that selling a model to band, however bad their sound maybe (and it is very relative, still), is not bad. There are universally condemned acts like killing, stealing, waging wars on countries on a pack of lies (and with all due respect, I’d like to add all hip hop versions of Sting songs to the list, but I can’t find enough ppl to support me on that issue  )

I don’t know what you guys think, but Michelangelo totally sold out when he got payed to paint the Sistine Chapel. I liked him way back before he became a whore.

With so many nationalities on this site wires often get crossed:rolleyes:.

Hmm, just saw the screenshots from the other archived thread.
Sorry, but to my memory, this isn’t the first time this footage has acutally been used, based on the images shown anyway.
A while back, there was another video “How deep is your love”, (can’t recall the band), the animation matched fully and so did the lipsync. I’m going back a good 12 months or so here. I can’t find a link to this new video so I can’t say for certain if it is all the same.
EDIT: - Here’s the link for “how deep”
