NASA has trialled an engine that would take us to Mars in 10 weeks

#1

NASA scientists have reported that they’ve successfully tested an engine called the electromagnetic propulsion drive, or the EM Drive, in a vacuum that replicates space. The EM Drive experimental system could take humans to Mars in just 70 days without the need for rocket fuel, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this could change everything

More on the engine…
‘Impossible’ rocket drive works and could get to Moon in four hours
The British designed EM Drive actually works and would dramatically speed up space travel, scientists have confirmed

What could we do on mars? :curious:

#3

Grow potatoes

#4

First make the mars more like the earth. lol.

90000 Years later. Mars got a earth like air. Nice. Now we can grow potatos and basmati rice.

#5

Ok, I thought EVERYONE would get the mars-potatoes joke. You know about that litle recent Ridley Scott flick?

#6

NO!? O_o :curious:

#7

Ok

SPOILER ALERT

In The Martian (based on the great book by andy weir) potatoes are grown on mars. Hint: some products of the human body may transform martian soil into great garden mold.

#8

you mean poo poo?

#9

I hope this post was an attempt at humour.

#10

all that make Mars like Earth story makes no sense at all.
instead ppl should focus on keeping Earth to stay like Earth instead of turning Earth into Mars…

#11

i know, it is possible to live on mars, but that duration is very large…

#12

Oh…PLEASE! (…as a earlier post alluded too)

…why bother?!?

I mean the rate humankind is abusing this planet, there’s seriously no need expending one iota of treasure or kilojoule of energy realising this pipedream.

Pretty simple really, just stick around til the year 2050’ish and TA DA!!! a readymade Martian environment in one’s (own) backyard - so to speak… X-(

 I’m not sure if some posts are meant to be sarcasms, so i just leave that here:

I have the impression that scientist have become PR stunts that do a good job of telling tales to us. :applause: What are they “really” doing with the tax money they use? One cannot know.

#15

I’m constantly baffled that so many people see the “fix Earth/visit Mars” thing as either/or. Why do they need to be mutually exclusive? Is it because you get your science news from right wing anti-big-government sources who like to crap on anything that doesn’t give lip-service to the bottom line or uphold the status quo, or do you have an actual reason?

#16

Yeah, why bother doing anything at all. Knowledge has no history of advancement. I can safely say that being a stupid mother fucker has helped me in every way shape and form in my life.

Why visit Mars.
Why leave our planet.
Why travel outside our country.
Why leave my basement.

In fact, why live at all. I am going to go shoot myself in the fucking face. Bye all.

#17

Over me, you won’t reach the mars, never.
Of course, in next time, humans will live on other plantes too. But not in our lives. So please, forget the mars thingy. It is unnecessary.
So, please, don’t be so evil to us.

Sth that is seldomly mentioned is that Mars does not have any significant magnetic field like earth. That means no air is going to stay in place, it is always going to be blown away by solar wind and even worse cosmic radiation and the one from sun is not shielded neither by magnetic field nor by the atmosphere, so this means genetic mutation and cancer for everybody trying to stay for a longer period. Of course you could stay in deep caves…or burn all available fuel to bring tons of lead to mars

Am I correct in presuming that one of the objectives of Mars Bases would be that they would facilitate in mining the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter?

Science the shit out of it!
