So I have been trying to model this hair for a while and have finished all the curls and joined them all up. All the while avoiding poles with 6 edges, triangles and N-sided polygons. One of my major concerns is that it becomes highly dense with edge loops on the top of the head (an area that would need far less) this creates a wrinkling effects and are hard to iron out. So basically I was wonder if anyone has any tips that could solve this issue. Such as ways to decrease the number of edge loops going over the top or any advice on doing hair in general as I kind of just went solo on this and I haven’t much experience with modelling hair before. Thanks
My polygon hair is too high dense in vertices on top is there any ways around this?
looks good… if its rendering its fine…
if you are aiming for the perfect mesh… try to create some tris and let one loop end in there to get a quad…
or let one loop to up one hais strand go dow the other one…

I appreciate the feedback and especially the link. That’s a very useful image that I could use it on many more projects as well. Thanks heaps
Your image looks very much like Princess Sofia from the Disney Channel (2 kids here so Disney Channel is consistently on). Would be nice to see some more images, as it would be quite an unusual project. From what I can see it looks really accurate,
Thanks man I appreciate it. You’re right it is Princess Sofia, love the show too even if it is aimed at kids. The modeling took a ton a reference images like I mean I had hundreds, as I wanted to be as accurate as I could. I swear I can imagine her hair in perfect 3D in my mind now lol Drove me crazy that hair. I’ve done the body now too and tiara. You can see my gradual progression with the hair on my portfolio project page here: http://jason21745.cgsociety.org/art/maya-sofia-first-recreation-cartoon-2d-1349551
I also have a YouTube Turntable play blast of my latest update on her if you want to check it out here:

It’s coming along very nicely. I can imagine it being quite hard to get it right, as they have unique features like the way her cheeks puff out and sharply fall back into the rest of the face (which is what gave away to me it was Sofia).
I too like the program, particularly the animation when it comes to Amber being so self centred, her facial expressions are pulled off really well, the environments are sweet and the not-so-heavy toon rendered features.
Keep it up, would love to see her clothed and textured.
