my mesh acts like there's a duplicate under it but there's not?

vertex

the same vertex pulled in z

there aren’t hidden faces

I am not sure how this happened.

It looks like one character mesh, but when i manipulate a vert, there’s another hiding under it. I am teaching myself maya. My school stopped offering classes so I’m just messing around

If this sounds like a dumb question sorry maya is f’in complicated to me right now!! I added UVS but I dont think I’ve seen a mesh act like this with UV’s on it. Thanks for your help!

go to selection mode…try pressing 1 , 2 , 3…
definitely a dumb answer

#3

yeah… it didnt help much =|

Maybe there is another mesh under it?

If you pressed ctrl-D you get a duplicate copy of the mesh, and unless you move it, it will be right there in the same location with your mesh.

Change your view to open the outliner and see if there is a duplicate copy of the mesh. Generally, if your mesh was named polySurface1, the duplicate will be named polySurface2. If this is what happened, click on polySurface2 and press the Delete key, and your problem will be fixed.

If not, maybe some screenshots would help.

thanks but there is not a duplicate under it

#6

also, pics added

#7

use the HUD poly/vert/edge counter and the lasso tool to see how many faces/verts are in your selection to know if it’s a duplicated face.

i restarted maya yet came back to the same issue twice now its not there. graphics card issue ?

Hi
Have you applied any deformer to the mesh? Select the mesh n see its input output connections in the hypergraph, which will help u. If you apply any deformer an intermediate mesh will be created and will be invisible always.
Rgds,

go to component mode (press F9), select all vertices and merge vertices (dont forget to set the distance between them as ZERO)
also try:
conform all faces once (it will not be of much help, but is very useful to reduce dark shades that we get few times)

my previous answer was a blunder, actually my browser was not showing your images, so i guessed your problem just by your text part.
