Great work! However, I think you should hold off on applying any shaders or texture until all of the modeling is done. I really like the feel of the character, the face looks hilarious.
One other comment I have is the position you chose to model him in. It may cause problems when he is rigged and animated. You may want to close the mouth and model his face in a more neutral position, unless of course he walks around with his mouth open all the time!

I can’t hold off on the shaders …
I write some of the shader, render software myself … so I would not have any fun doing just that if I hold off. So that’s the story on that. Plus it’s very fast and easy to change the way they are applied. There is no UV mapping at all.
I’m not animating any of my characters. I haven’t done animation in a few years … I don’t have time for that with the programming that I’m doing.
Your advice is good for most … I’m just not a regular guy. I’m writing ManifoldLab and I must play with it as much as I can.
