My 'human' WIP...

#1

I started this on Friday, and worked on it for about an hour, and again on Saturday and Sunday. It’s up to 568 polygons so far, and I still need to make a head, arms + hands, and feet. Plus a few touch-ups here and there. It’s my first human model and fourth or so “serious” model. I said I’d post it here yesterday so here’s what I have so far:

Any advice would be appreciated.

Right now my advice would be to use the image plane feature in Wings to bring in either a sketch or photos of a human form. It really helps a great deal. I see some nice features starting to peek out in the model, but it’s still looking a little blocky.
Also people can tell more about the model from looking at the cage.
Keep going.

Thanks for the advice! I agree that it is a bit blocky still. I’d say that I’m not currently happy with its ‘thickness’ if you know what I mean. I’m also trying to decide if I should make some minor imperfections to add a more realistic/normal appearence (rather than the supermodel appearence everyone goes for; but that is a tempting thought ;)). Maybe I’ll do a ‘save as’ so that I can branch it off into several different models .
-Got any ideas/or more advice? (I won’t post all of my progress in here since that would belong in the 3D WIP section.)
-Also, would I be able to put the model onto a disc that would load everytime I opened Wings, rather than just saving it to my hard-drive?

Hey, I think this is looking just fine thus far… we must keep in mind that all human forms are the perfect 10 sort of figures eh… to which well yea, I can see this coming along just fine, less of course you were actually going for the Apollo like form, in which case then I totaly agree with Betelguese

I especially like where the back joins in to the buttocks region, looks very potential, reallistic like…

and yea, a shaded wire would be cool…

also, I would suggest that you continue posting updates right here in the Wings forum, unless a mod suggests otherwise of course… thing is that we Wings types usually come straight to the Wings forum before any other forum, least ways I do

keep up the efforts here, it will pay off for sure

Well, i post alot of stuff that gets one or two crits, so either i suck or people are lazy lol. so i will give my 2 cents in hopes that you find it useful. my current model looks very similar to yours, in fact i thought i had posted it and forgot, anyway, i attached a capture of what i think will help. the model looks great and my only thought is marked #1. pull these vertical edges on thoutside and the inside to round off the legs a bit. good job otherwise

heres my version, a little further on in the process but getting there.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t suggesting that you model an ideal human or perfect body type figure. I was merely suggesting that whatever type of body you’re going for, it would help to either have a sketch or a photo reference mapped to an image plane in Wings so that you can see how the proportions in your model are shaping up.
Good luck.

Thank you all very much for the feedback, I appreciate it a lot! I’ll try and work on it a little bit tonight (I just got out of school and need some time to unwind). Here’s a shaded wire of what you see in my first post above:

Thanks again!
