Are you currently doing art just for fun, or do you have professional aspirations? The kind of critique and advice I’d give you will differ depending on how serious you are about your artistic development.

Hi. Thanks for responding to my post. I do it for fun and also have aspirations to become a 2D character designer. Any constructive criticism would be much appreciated.

If you have professional aspirations, then my advice to you is to buckle down and learn/train in the critical foundations of visual art. Right now everything you do looks amateurish because you have no foundation as an artist. You need to learn the basics and then master your understanding of the essential elements of visual art such as composition, values/lighting, shapes/forms, colors, anatomy/figure, etc. Without that knowledge, you cannot be a proficient character concept artist.

I suggest you go to the Art Techniques & Theories subforum (linked below in my signature) and read the sticky threads at the top of that forum, as they contain many very helpful tips on how to learn and train effectively as a visual artist, using strategies that are the most effective, so you don’t waste years of your life running around in circles while using bad habits and methodologies that hinders your artistic development.

Ah ok. Well I did take figure drawing classes in college and color theory. And I do have a tendency to make the male fig. Longer. I have other versions of him that show him more Natural to the male figure. Did you see those?

Having taken classes is not the same as having attained proficiency. Many of my students have art degrees from art schools, but they were missing critical knowledge and skills that they weren’t taught in school, or they didn’t manage to learn properly. I gave you that advice because I can see exactly where you are lacking in your foundation training. If you are serious about your artistic aspirations, the best you can do for yourself is to buckle down and study/train in the critical foundations.

Yes. I know what you meant and I thank you for the advice. I actually plan on hopefully going to the student league of art in nyc. There I can learn more. I feel my professors tried but since I was coming in with no experience and plus I’m self taught, I felt way behind then some other students. But I will definitely continue working on Aadil and my other characters.
