I agree with you re the drifting away from the original design, might be fun to try it afterwards though? Like a revived Buu, ala Mecha Freiza

Thinking about the contracting vents further, the only issue I can think of with that is that it might be hard to distinguish them at great distances, which in turn leads to me thinking what would be the point in implementing them in the first place, you know? But try different things, see what works.

Ya I am having fun on the 80’s challenge, learning a bunch about really trying to stick to my reference and concepts. Not sure if I will finish in time for voting, but I want to finish it either way. Though I can’t texture for the life of me so his colors will probably be simple diffuse.

You should enter too, though you should know that there are about 3 or 4 other skeletors already competing

Keep up the great work!

HitmonDavis: thanks man! Well im in kinda of a crudge with mudbox 2009 at the moment hehe  it has some problems with the importing functions… But other than that i love it! =P
I know this have been said a million times before but it is really user friendly. Thats the main reason why i dont use zbrush. kinda sad though since i´d love to use the claybrush and viewport rendering that zbrush offers…

robo3687: Thanks! Too bad our styles doesn´t match otherwise i would love to through my Buu into your cool battle between Goku and Vegeta!
But maybe it wouldnt be fair because he would KICK THEIR ASSES!!! haha just kidding =P

Geta-Ve: Yeah i agree! It´s great fun to mess with well known characters =P
I thought of that too, thinkin of maybe making them more veiny and cracked?
might do the trick? Since i dont have any ideas of ever animating him the holes must stay fully opened but still look alive hehe…

Awesome usagi by the way! i was a real turtles and usagi fan when i was a kid!! Collected all the magasines from the very beginning.
I totally agree on your filosofy about finishing him either way. I dont think winning the contest is important, as long as you have fun and learn something =P

Yeah i saw all the skeletors haha… they were really great too!
Hmm… maybe ill do skeletor anyway hehe

#24

very nice …
looking forward to the first poses

#25

Thanks xtrm3d!
Here´s a little posing test. Just a little quick skinning inside maya to see how it holds together =P

I have also added some detail to the steamholes and given him a pedestal to hover above.
Right now im figuring out the best way to create some kind of energy rising from the pedestal.

Hope u like it =)

#26

This is sharp, man. Very sharp. Inspires me to do a Cell. For serious. Keep up the good work and excellent anatomy here! Inspires me to do better!

#27

Awesome detail mate!

#28

This is looking fantastic! And totally badass!

#29

well done! really amazing.

#30

Wow! I had seen this before but I fail at responding right away, but wow indeed. I love the swirl you modelled in to the dirt, very cool.

For the energy rising, the first thing I would do is make the pedestal bigger in diameter, keep the swirl, but also have pieces of the ground breaking off and tiny rocks and stuff floating in the air. And then to show the actual energy… hmmm… NO CLUE! LOL

#31

Wow thanks for the support guys! =)

sorry for the late response! im currently workin on my entry for the 80s challange!!

Fat skeletor hehe…

Hope u like it! =)

@Shuggs Thanks for the kind words! id like to do cell aswell some time! especially texture him! =D

@Geta-Ve haha i had forgotten i posted it aswell =P yeah i think the swirl turned out nice, but originally i wanted to do a typical manga “wall crater”… maybe ill do two pedistals hehe…
cool that you think the same way i do! cuz in fact i´ve already done the floating rocks hehe!
haha same here… in stuck on the energy… having some trouble with alpha maps and final gathering working together…

i have also rendered out a turntable of this latest pic below =)

#32

oh man that’s totally badass! excellent job bringing him to life!

#33

HA! Awesome! Great minds think alike I suppose.

Looking the picture over, or at least the rocks, I would also add a bit of ‘dirt’ as well, sort of matching the direction that the swirl is going in. I think that would help add a lot of motion to a still image.

I have a few ideas actually on how you could model the energy but I am having a lot of trouble finding the words to explain myself… which I realize does no help you in any way… LOL

I will see if I can find some examples online that might help you out.

#34

Nice model, you got me going through my old DBZ VHS tapes now, can’t wait to see the final image.

#35

excellent job. The only thing i see is the tentacle is badly integrated into the character’s anatomy looks strange. but the characther overaal is excellent

#36

…This buu’s face too ugly and old.

#37

haha does this bring back memories, it looks fantastic man, although I agree that his face is a bit wrinkled, and I preferred this badass look of him

http://img1.cdn.crunchyroll.com/i/spire3/04082008/e/9/7/7/e9776e145ab690_full.jpg

but thats just my preference looks awesome nonetheless

#38

that base is absolutely amazing!!!

#39

the crystal ball look great !!
may be the engraved star could be red or orange ?

as for teh pose … i would have arched his back just a little bit more to reinforce the feeling of effort
beside of that minus point …i really dig it

#40

Thanks for all the great comments! =)

SNoWs Thanks alot man! and thanks for the add =)

Geta-Ve haha exactly!! =P i agree, i tried to use “shatter” in maya to create the pieces but somehow it doesn´t want to work… =( so i modeled them by hand haha… Wish i was better at dynamics and particles haha  would be nice to see what u come up with :stuck_out_tongue: have tried to do the energy the simple way with planes and alphamaps byt finalgather doesnt like that…
I know exactly in my head what the energy should look like aswell by lacking reference aswell haha… but im thinkin a swirl with small bursts upward… kinda

fabionguzman Thanks! =) glad to hear your joining us hehe  i bought some dbz dvds myself! looks awesome on a 47" lcd hehe =P

cdx Thanks for the crit! tried to do a tendony integration of the tentacle but maybe i overdid it =P

lijueshi Nicest thing i´ve heard all day =P

Pan3sar thanks! Love that buu aswell! =) maybe i´ll model him also and make em fight!

Lordrych Thanks alot man!

xtrm3d Thanks! yeah i had that in mind, also thought of leaving everything black & white except for really red eyes… my intention is to texture it all when i get time =)
oh and for the pose! I´ll arc him for u! just too bad im a lousy rigger! you dont happen to know if there is a “max biped” for maya do you? looked everywhere but all of them are just non skinable animatic riggs

Just a sketch of a possible scene I did in the beginning of buu attacking Goku… =)
