Mudbox sketch Buuuu

#1

Update:

Hi!

Here´s a sketch of Majin Buu im workin on.

Im almost finished with the ruff shape/anatomy (will start on his steamholes next)

Haven´t given his legs too much attention since he´ll be wearing pants later on

Would be great if i could get some crit to tweak before i start with the fine details =)

here goes:

This is a nice version of Buu your making, The legs look a little slim compared to the rest of his body maybe bring out the thigh’s some, Even though buu is kinda skinny it would bring out your piece more. Can’t wait to see the finished version

GREAT JOB

#3

his legs are tiny, he looks almost like a skeleton with just upper body muscles, looks really good otherwise. the waist is too thin too.

#4

Thanks alot guys! =)

I agree, the legs were very slim, kinda tried too hard bulkin him DOWN :stuck_out_tongue:

have modified him a bit after your suggestions.

here are the new updates.

-Bigger thighs
-Steamholes
-A few minor corrections

Looking great. A few things I notice, the ‘ears’ seem a bit far back (or his head just too deep?) and the steam holes look too … holey. lol. What I mean is they just seem like you hole punched him, maybe add some skin folds or something around those areas to keep them more inline with the organic nature.

Also I think it is worth asking which version of Buu you are doing? There are several. If you are doing the smaller buu (which it seems) then he only has 1 finger and a… umm… paw thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Some ref if you are interested,

hey! nice sculpt! I saw ur concept of majin buu, its identical of this 3d version!
Keep working man!

#7

Thanks Geta-ve. i agree they were a bit far back ( moved them as far forward i could without destroying the base :stuck_out_tongue: )
Also gave him som flesh around the steamholes, will work more on them in the bumpmap.
Yes im creating a version of “Kid Buu” since i dont really like the other forms
Regarding the fingers i know he only has an thumb, index and pawthingy but since i want to pose him holding two energy balls with spread out fingers around them i went with “artistic freedom” and gave him one more finger and only merged the ring-and pinkyfinger :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks alot for the references by the way! =)

Thank you Ghizme!

Here´s an update!

Having a few minor (big) problems with mudbox im trying to solve…
Some how my dispmap extractions get atrifacts around the eyes and mouth!
since i didn´t create the uvs before i started sculpting in mudbox hell has broke lose :stuck_out_tongue:

i cant import uvs cuz then they´ll explode in higher levels!

And i cant import as layer cuz then the MESH explodes in the higher levels!!

Im thinking its because i accidentally left ONE triangle in the mesh… shame on me…

so here i am… cant pose him in mudbox and cant get his maps correct :frowning:

BUT, we cant stop modeling just because of minor setbacks ey

here´s some of the clothes im workin on…

#8

Wow, very nice! A shame though about the UV’s and such. Would have been great to see him posed. (unless you are still going to try?)

This is coming together quite nicely if I do say so myself.

#9

All this DBZ is making me want to do Cell or Krillin. Some seriously nice things going on here. I’m a fan of the deltoids and pectoral regions here, too. Something I would love to try and accomplish myself!

#10

I’m a huge DBZ fan and I must say, this is the best kid buu I have ever seen. Your colors are a bit off but he still looks great!

Awaiting for some poses

#11

Thanks alot guys =)

Not giving up that easy geta-ve
im trying to extract maps in mudbox 1.07 at the moment and its looking much better :stuck_out_tongue:
HE SHALL BE POSED!! hehe…

I´d love to see you do “Cell” Shuggs! it would be awesome to texture him! :stuck_out_tongue:
Yeah seriously lots of DBZ here! Funny thing i didnt know there was a DBZ movie comming out when i started Buu!! I got the idea when i saw that someone here had done Freiza! cant remember his name but it was freakin awesome! just had to do Buu! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks vishsm! =) Yeah i know! the colors are just basic mudbox materials with AO
When i get my maps straight ill give him proper colors!

By the way! Wouldn´t it be great if someone started a DBZ thread so we could gather all the cool characters in one place?? :stuck_out_tongue:

#12

P.S

Just remembered!

The guy who did “Frieza” is David Munoz Velazquez!

Got to give proper credit got damnit!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Check him out =)

#13

Ya that was an insanely good freiza… O_O I actually thought you guys were the same person based on the style and level of detail!

#14

Thanks Geta-Ve, I take that as a great compliment =)

Wohoo it time to celebrate! i´ve finally gotten the map extration to work my way!!

Had to switch back to mudbox 1.07 to get correct results!

(dont think the smooth uv function in 2009 works very well?)

Even tried SP1! same uneven displacement map there!

Well well it finally works anyway hehe =P

Here´s some quick renders with some basic lighting and final gather added:

Still having some minor issues with the maps as you can see but nothing i cant fix

Cheers lads and gals =P

Man, that is looking fantastic! Good to hear you got the maps pretty much sorted out, should be sweet to see him posed.

My only crit at this point is the holes, they definitely are looking more organic, but giant holes in a realistic body just seems so off putting to my eyes. I realize you are probably practically finished, but it may be worth looking in to other ideas for steam vents, so to speak. Maybe have fleshy areas that open up and contracts and such. Lol, this is going to sound weird what I am about to reference, but it is the best thing I can think of at the moment (I am tired ok! lol) but, at this point in time, I am imagining them as almost…

sigh

rectums… LOL. but obviously looking suitable to the area they are places. But the idea of contracting and opening would work the same.

That or have it mechanical vents.

I dunno, just some ideas of a tired man.

Either way this is looking VERY slick. :applause:

#16

Hahahahahahaha your sick man!

But i agree it would be cool with contracting holes! =)
I have tought of giving him mechanical steamholes actually, but it felt like i was drifting from the original. but you´ll never know if you don´t try right
I´ll look up some steamvent references in the net and see what i can do!

By the way, its really fun to work with others ideas =P like having your own boss haha!

ooo cool to see you´ve entered the 80´s challenge!
Usagi was one of my favourites back in the day!
I´m thinkin if entering with Skeletor! so many ideas so little time haha =P

Here´s a render of the back:

#17

Looks good, I dunno about the trousers, I mean they look good but your model looks realistic and the trousers look cartoony, you could probably make the trousers look more realistic then it would work.

#18

Nice model so far. I’m really diggin’ the face, really captured him there. I do have a tiny crit though. The pecs and the deltoids seems to be blending into each other. Right now they look like one big mass. A little separation would really help. And maybe look at how the pecs connect the the upper arms. It doesn’t look like it’s wrapping under.

hope that helps.

#19

thanks for the crit hoodedpython, Baothebuff! =)

his pants will get more detail, im only on level 3 or 4 right now. are trying to find good hakama references  so if you´ve got any please share them =P

Thanks for the heads up =) i see what u mean now hehe. i´ll try and fix the pecs/delts better!

keep it commin!

#20

I really like what you’ve got so far. How do you like Mudbox compared to zbrush? I was considering trying it out.
