Mudbox for Mac - Need advice for Poser and other questions

#1

I could use some advice on the Mac version of Mudbox. Before trying the demo, I was wondering how much learning resources there are compared with ZBrush and Modo? Also, what about plug-ins like ZB has now? Basically, I am interested in importing Poser/Daz figures as “.obj”, doing a custom sculpt of the head and exporting back into Poser. This is simple with the ZB plug-in which auto scales the figure properly to and from ZB. Does such a thing exist for Mudbox?

I am looking at Modo too as I have heard a lot of good things about it for the Mac and it has some good tutorials. There is a Modo site coming soon just like the C4DCafe one. What books, video tutorials and help is there for Mudbox?

Thanks for any thoughts and imput.

mudbox is so easy to use that I felt like an idiot when I received the Digital Tutors DVD for MB 2009. There’s no poser script like that as far as I know but obj files import fine.

If you want my DT DVD, I’ll sell you it cheap. PM me.

modo is very different and is not nearly as capable for high-res organic modelling because of how Mudbox uses the graphics card to do mesh manipulation. A mesh with 100,000 polygons in modo will be as slow as Mudbox is with a 10,000,000 polygon model. But you need to do low res cage modelling in an app before importing into MB. This is where modo or Maya, etc come in. Poser models aren’t ideal but they’ll work.
