Okay… pain in the eyes… yes. Feel free to copy the banner from MSWC#1 it has no number on it and was originally intended to be used over and over again

and I think I need to clean up all those terms and conditions once more… (or if someone else feels the urge to do it, feel free) that is a lot of lines right there.

I think I am going to find this a hard one… since I need to come up with some tension myself this time… but on the other hand I have spend enough time on railway stations to know my way around. I think I am going for a love story… that’ll be good.

Anyway good to see it started again… still need to write a piece for my thread too… I don’t feel like it, guess i’m not professional enough yet eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Bye!

[left]So updated the Terms and conditions somewhat… pulled out what was outdated and some of the lines I found were self explanatory (like the final entered after a deadline only on consent of the remaining participants, that should have to be ruled I think that is just being polite… or asking)

But tell me if there is something that could be taken out or has to put in… I’m always open to suggestions and good arguments

hey guys

I dont mean to be complaining here but I just wanted to add something to the thread. Well this is now the third MSWC and frankly I wanted to address something that kinda has been bothering me for the past challenges.

Now looking back at most of the critiques that have been made about the previous challenges, I am beginning to see a trend. It seems like we have pretty much got a hold of how to format our scripts correctly. In fact, most of the bulk of the critique seems to be on the actual storyline we come up with rather than anything else.

I can understand that all of us have made some very good points about how to better develop our characters and make a story flow. But at the heart of what restricts our story and how it flows is actually because of the number of pages of script that we are limited to.

I really find it difficult to fit a decent story in a matter of 6 pages. I have experienced this from both perspectives of leaving a story too short and trying to fit a good full story within 6 pages. The first script I did, i wanted to say so much but had to sacrifice a lot of detail and eventually conclude my story just so it fits within 6 pages.

My second script I kinda aimed for a shorter version and kinda cut it off almost before using up 6 pages. In that case i didnt develop the characters and details that i would if I had tried to work the story into more pages.

Now I am on my third and I have a really good idea but even before reaching the good part I find that I am already on my 6th page. This is really frustrating. So I come to you all to implore that for once, we use a bit more than 6 pages. I know where that might lead room for people to babble on about unnecessary detail but frankly sometimes that is important to a story.

So I was wondering if 12 pages would do? I mean 6 pages of people on public transport talking about where they are going…I can see where there may be room for boredom with the characters especially when there will be more than one charcter giving his/her input on where they going and what not.

please…please can we use more than 6 pages?

ah… you have a bit of a point there,

However, and I am being frank, for me the problem doesn’t lie in the restriction so much as in the amount of time I am spending gathering thoughts, producing a nice layout, etc. So getting my act together for the second and this challenge is more difficult then it was for the first and that is mainly because I have other stuff I want to do too… so I don’t invest those 3 a 4 hours I need to.
And I also think that the way we build our stories can only improve by doing and (in my idea) shouldn’t matter that much if you are creating a quick fun scene in 6 pages or a short story in 12. This time I am trying to get a real and decent dialogue going with two defined characters, who stand on the same level and that takes a lot of effort I think, so I am happy when that is going to flow right and am not too concerned about my story actually
(maybe that is not good either)

Conclusion:
So if you think you are happier doing a 12 pages script, be my guest, I don’t mind, as long as I don’t have to since I am focussing on learning/ training something that can be done in 6 pages, in 3 pages even.
However I do think you should be able to make something fun in 6 as well, even if you have to scrap a whole lot of background and character development.

And on another not, RobertoOrtiz (you know the guy who strolls around putting people on the front page and hosts the daily sketches and a number of challenges) asked for some scripts for a 30 sec to 2 min short with a commercial plane crash for the FXwars (special effects in film) In which the teams/people who enter should stick as closely as possible to the script.
Shall we do the next MSWC with this assignment, then the winner for this MSWC still gets to choose the next topic, after that. I think it will prove a nice difference and we will probably see some of the stuff back in actual footage
And it will land us some exposure too which I am sure can’t be wrong.

OKay that is my daily ramble. Bye now, I am off to work!

wow that sounds like a cool idea matsman. i was wondering how we could had a little diversity to these challenges since it seems we are writing story after story. sounds cool mate.

and on that note about the 6 pages thing. yes i agree. in the beginning i thought it was fun to have the challenge of trying to fit a story inside a restricted page count. but when you think about the actual format of a script…meaning the marginal guidlines, the references to location and time of day, the fact that you have to mention a character’s name everytime he or she speaks…6 pages of pure script format including long dialogue really takes up a lot of paper. so in the end, 6 pages of dialogue aint really much in my eyes.

and i also wanted to mention that i dont necessarily wanted to use 12 pages. maybe like 8 or 9. i just wanted to work out a cool idea for once without any restrictions on pages. i suppose i approached the story with an idea too big for 6 pages. well i dont know what you may know about narratives, but that is pretty much my story. the main character narrates throughout. and i suppose i can see where that leads room for lengthy scripts.

anyways. again that idea sounds cool. i am actually not familiar with that guy you mentioned. maybe when the time comes you can explain in more detail about it. but sounds awesome.

Kay! seems like a fruitful idea then… now see if others are as enthusiastic.

On the other stuff:
I think the major reason of doing this is having fun and learn in the process. So if you feel you are not having fun or not as much as you could have we should do something.
I already anticipated you wanted the freedom to do 12 and not be forced to do 12, so that is quite clear. And you are right, 6 pages aren’t really a lot.
But getting to the essence is very important to a writer, so if your weak point is creating very big stories very quickly it is a good thing to be tied down somewhat. That doesn’t mean it has to be all like that all the time, I can understand the other point as well, and as I said the main thing is having fun.

But on the other hand, it is not my show, I also mentioned I didn’t mind you doing that either. Maybe we should lose the pagecount and go for a timeframe… like the planecrash thing. Or even use both, changing now and then.

But I already had my daily rant, so I will stop typing this and eat my very late dinner
Bye guys!

You know, this is quite nice actually… after reviewing the assignment again this morning I noticed my story wasn’t in theme. I had already 3 pages of a quarreling couple on a trip and not people travelling on their own… so I threw all that away and started anew, which is quite alot easier to get right for some reason.

Now trying to do a neo-romantical approach which is nice… and will probably also go a little over the six pages, since I was already 2 pages in and had still a character to introduce…

hmmm anyway… back to the rewrite

Hi guys! This seems to be a very interesting challenge and although I’m not a writer I think I’ll dig into this if you don’t mind  But the reason I’m posting is because I can’t find the thread for the first MSWC that I was looking for because of the title image… Thanks in advance!

#11

Hi Kameleon,

Feel free to enter our little challenge here, we’ll be looking forward to reading your material!

However I am curious as to why you want the title image…?
The main thing was to make sure everybody knows what kind of thread this was… so that is why I originally made it. Somehow everybody got round to doing their own title, which is good too

Anyway, if you have any other questions, please ask… oh and the image is here… the thread is here.
I got them by using the forum search option

#12

Thanks matsman, I just thought it was part of the rules to include that image  If it’s not then fine! Cya!

#13

 hej no problem! The image is only necesary when you won and get to choose the next topic and have to start a new thread.

Just entering you are free to do as you please

Nice to have you onboard!
