Movie Clip Maneuvering?

#1

Ok,
Here is a quick diagram of my site/problem…
Scene
Scene
>>Movie Clip (1)
>>>>Movie Clip (2)

I have nested movie clips in my new site and i was wondering if there is a way to go from a nested movie clip (2) back out to the previous movie clip (1). I have done animated drop down menu’s (which is what the “Movie Clip (1)” represents), and the movie clip (2) will hopefully be what appears when you click one of the buttons in the drop down menu. I hope you can follow this. There is the gotoAndPlay command but that only works with scenes. How do i switch back and forth through movie clips? LoadMovie command might work, but i would prefer not to have the clips be seperate .swf’s.

I hope you master’s o flash can help me understand :surprised

Thank you

I think I read somewhere that you can access different mc’s attributes like frames by using the dot method…

I think this is how it’s supposed to go:

_root.MC1

I think that’s it…except I am not sure about the two scenes…I’m not that experienced in Flash so don’t be surprised if this doesn’t work…sorry:shrug:

If I’m following your request correctly, waterhycinth is correct. Use dot syntax to move from mc to mc. In the case of the gotoAndPlay command, the syntax is this:

_root.mcTarget.gotoAndPlay(“start”);

as long as mcTarget is attached to the _root level. You can also use _parent or _level0, as applicable.

To add to this thread and not hijack it…I have used the jump inside a movie clip function to play a label/frame for a tile flip. The first part of the movie clip is a tile flip over, then the second part is that it flips back. I used the syntax right (im pretty sure)because it does jump into the movie clip, but it only plays one frame, not the entire animation clip. There are no stop scripts on the frame that it jumps to. If i use _root.movieclip.play then it plays the entire movie clip which is close but not what i want. Any ideas? It might help Possum understand how things work. I can post the file if necessary.

First off, make sure you are using gotoAndPlay(label) and not a gotoAndStop(). Otherwise, check all movie clips on the timelines to make sure that there’s not an errant stop() command somewhere.
