Motion graphics in C3

#1

Hey guys,

I’m reasonably new to Combustion, having recently got my teeth into version 3. I’m trying to focus my attention on Combustion’s motion graphics capabilities - I’ve been told that AE is better for this, but I hate the interface.

I’ve been trying to find some decent online resources that could help me unlock the motion graphics potential of Combustion, but I’m drawing a blank - any suggestions of sites (or books) that deal with Combustion in a primarily motion graphics capacity would be much appreciated.

Anything that can be done in AE, can be done with Combustion. If you need some AE special plugin to work, almost every AE plugin works perfectly with Combustion.

I hate AE interface also…

I have had the pleasure of looking at Ken’s 8 disk combustion 2 set training set and alot of the principals applied to combustion 3 (and four). Unfortunatly he literally spent 15 or so minutes on motion graphics which involved the blur operator and the speed channel. VTC’s training by Dwayne (something) has a section on motion graphics but i havn’t had a chance to view the set (yet). The most i can say is to get comfortable with the operators and the timeline, particularly in graph mode.

Hi
I wrote a tutorial about a similiar look like the ipod ad with combustion - no flying text but a start.

I think one plus for AE is that edited AI files are updated on save.
But I prefer to draw the shapes with combustions paint operator. And the most important stuff like blurs and glows are in all compositing applications.

There are only a few here but it’s a start. I’ve looked around a lot recently and I think if you want some in-depth tutorials you should consider looking at paying for some training or DVDs.

Thanks, Doc. I have seen these already, but thanks anyway. And as for training, I was going to look into some DVD packages, although from what others have said within these virtual walls, motion graphics (as a technique / discipline) seems to be massively overlooked by Combustion documentation - why is this? I mean, AE seems to get all the attention despite an inferior interface, although the quality of Adobe’s customer and product support does better Autodesk’s. Grrrr!

I did just land a job that deals with a lot of motion graphics work using AE, so I guess I’ll have to suck it up and deal with that awful interface in the name of getting on-the-job training… Anyways, thanks for bothering to drop the link in here. Might be useful for other Combustion users. Combustion forever! Death to After Effects!
