Motion capture file into custom rigg - How?

#1

I have my cowboy rigged, all nicely and named.
Instead of going to animate it frame by frame, I’m wondering how can I apply a motion capture FBX file into my custom made rigg. I’m new to this.
I was told to check on the HumanIK. I did and is great and looks easy enough.
However, that still didn’t answer my question if I can insert a mocap file in a custom rigg as shown in the attached image.
Or should I just simply throw away the rigg and start again with HIK?
I’m new to this and appreciated for any tips, directions or suggestions are all welcome.

Thank you.

HIK is a good way to look at the retargetting but currently not that simple to get onto a custom rig like you have. Take a look at my MasterClass from last year, covers all of the techniques to do what you’re after and includes a python module / toolkit to do it.

Hi Mark.

Thank you so much for stepping in and giving your inputs, I will definitely looked at the video later Today and give you my thoughts on it. Appreciated.

Hi GiantG,

Thanks for the video. Actually it was a great help too as I was re-doing the rigging based on HIK and got stuck as you can see my character is not in a T pose. Didn’t know 2013 allows you now to add a HIK into a customized HIK as I’m using the Faculty license, so no SAP for me.

Thank you both for the great help and suggestions. Mark I’ll get back to you after watching the video. Thank you.

This is my very first try with HumanIK, so the result is to be expected.
Re-working on it again later when I finish the other project in hand:
