Motion Builder Facial Animation ?

#1

I’ve been reading the manual (7.5Pro as well as 6 and 5 standard) and I’m just not getting how to do this. I know I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I should be able to get this.

I’m starting out with Lightwave and creating morph targets - i.e. the shapes MotionBuilder requires such as phoneme positions as well as left brow up, left brow down, etc. What I don’t understand is how to get MotionBuilder to recognize those morph targets and or what I should do. If I export my head model out in FBX format and then bring it into MB, I don’t know what to do next.

Is there a tutorial with detailed instructions that I can access? Or even one to buy that has detailed instructions regarding facial animation and morphs/endomorphs? Of course if anyone here can point me to either of these OR explain in detail the precise procedure, I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks!

check out the-area.com tutorials for face setup and also just read over the help files.

If the blendshapes are coming in from lightwave, then just pick the mesh and in the property editor you should see sliders for them.

Make sure you read over the FBX export process for getting blendshapes to work, in maya for example, the extra shapes have to be left in the file that created the blendshapes/targets and FBX combines them down at export.
