Morphing and bone deformation

#1

Hi all,

I’ve got a character that utilises moph data and bone deformation. When I twist the character using bone deformation, the morph that controls the mouth, seems to be slightly twisted (as if the mouth, WHEN MORPHED, hasn’t quite been pulled around by the bones. When no morph is applied, no problem, the model looks fine. I’ve tried a few stabilizing bones to no avail. Just wondering if I might have overlooked a setting somewhere …I’ve looked at the effects list but when I put the superblender effect above the bone deform effect in the list, it seems to stop the morph effect from working at all…

As an aside…when does Messiah freeze a Nurb’ed object…pre or post deform/morph etc…It’s just that in LW you can choose…if you use Point oven straight out of Messiah, without hooking into LW then this setting clearly becomes important.

You have to put Superblender up in the list above BoneDeform. Then select the bone_deform in the list and tick the “Use predeformed points” checkbox.

Hi Alex,

Thanks…I’ve just tried that but the mesh gets distorted right from when I click the animate TAB. What could I be doing wrong? It so sounds like it should work!?

Anyone any ideas? This is a bit of a show stopper at the moment.

(Boy I wish I’d used bones to rig the face rather than morphs!..so much more control AND easy to add more ‘poses’…but hey, I’m sooo far down the path!)

DMack,
Could you post the scene file as a .mpj file (this file format will include all the objects, textures, etc… in a compressed format)?

As far as rigging the face with bones, it’s still not too late …

Hi Chikega,

Thanks for the link. Given the timetable, I’ll have to stay with the morph issue…It only affects extreme morphs so I should be abe to avoid it in animation. Next time…or if the pitch
works…I’ll re-rig the face using good old bones - so much more flexibility!

PS I wonder if SB2 will fix this…if it is a fault of SB (which I have no evidence for)?
