can we do morph or blend shapes in blender? like modo?
morph or blend shapes in blender?
well you can fake it with shape keys, it’s not definitely the right way but just a start. Check a video i did some time ago… need to implement this method though…
But is it possible to morph a cube to a sphere for example? Or if you have two characters/objects and morph it midst in an animation into the other object? Any ideas on how to achieve this?

In two steps:
-
Subdivide a cube two times (W >> Subdivide)
-
Add a Cast Modifier: Sphere. Raise Factor to 1.00. Apply as Shape.
In Object Data >> Shape Keys panel: select the Cast shape and change the Value slider to see it happen
Now is a matter of animation/keyframing. Mouse over the Value slider and right click >> Insert Keyframe (or press “i”). Go to another frame, change the value and keyframe it again…
Press play, you’re done
take a look at cgcookie, they’re making a tutorial to morph between a werewolf and a human.
Mordachai,
I understand going from an object to a sphere but how would I morph from one head object to another?

The same.
-
Create ‘Head1’ in the normal way (edit mode modelling)
-
Add a shape key (Blender will call it ‘Basis’)
-
Create another shape key (Blender will call it ‘Key 1’)
-
Than with ‘Key 1’ selected go to edit mode and model until you transform ‘Head1’ in ‘Head2’
That’s the way to create facial expressions or even completely different models. If you’re doing a human > werewolf transformation, for example, you can create multiples shape keys: ears, arms, hands, feet, etc.
Note: yes, the model will always have the same polycount. If you want change between different objects you can use Layers for that.
