modo tools

#1

I was wondering if Modo 1.02 already has tools like segment scale and stretch point, where you can move points along edges. And something like speedy quad, where you just select 3 points and the tool will automaticly create a 4th one to create a quad.
Or center pivot, where you center the pivot point on the selected geometry with the click of a button and use it as the action center of your tools.

thanks

wings got that stuff I’m not sure if modo does. I’m pretty sure it does though

#3

He didnt ask if Wings had it or not…

Yes, modo as speedy quad, though it is called smartQuad. There are many action centers in modo, but I believe there is a script for the allign to pivot.

You can use edge slice to gain more points along an edge.

Cheers.

this wings muppet pops his head around the corner at every post doesn’t he

So no movement along edges in modo yet.

Thanks.

#5

Not at present, nope. Though it has been requested on the Lux forums.

#6

actually yeah, I shouldn’t have posted here. I got too excited sorry

#7

ROTFL, “wings muppet”, wipes away a tear…

#8

Actually you can.
Place your cursor over the edge you want as control, press the HOME key to make this the base of the construction grid, and you can now use either Move or Tweek to move the points along this edge.
Then just reset the construction grid when your finished.

#9

thanks. The construction grid sounds like a good solution for one or two points at a time. But actualy I’m looking for something simular as in the image at the end of the link below. It might sound like nitpicking, but I’ve grown really fond of this cool tool in modeler.

maybe an idea for a clever scripting dude.

#10

that’s a cool tool! that would be awesome for rounding out stuff like joint connections. cool

#11

can you extrude along normal in modo?

#12

sorrry, extrude along normal and keep faces together.

#13

That’s cool about the interactive construction plane. Sliding a vertex along an edge is cool. But I find that Slide Edge more functional for what I do. The one construction plane wouldn’t necessarily work for this.

It’s a nice feature that I use in Silo all the time. Looking forward to it in modo.

#14

Yes, and you can translate the geometry (vertices, edges, polys) along their normals as well (averaged normal and non-averaged normal for a group).

#15

Select the edges that you are editing and set the action center to local.

See image.

#16

no I think I found extrude along normals but it’s not an extrude, its a bevel. If you select multiple faces and bevel you’ll get what I meant by extrude along normals.

#17

Yes, Bevel will extrude the polys with non-averaged normals, the Extrude function will extrude with averaged normals (with Local mode activated).

#18

Blah, okay I have one question. In extrude mode (x key)when I try and extrude a polygon I get something that APPEARS to be 3d but when rotated around it really only was drawn along two axes, what’s up with this has anyone else noticed this? or do i just need to check some box that says “actual 3d extrude.”?

#19

Make sure your in Local mode. Hit “X”, click one time in the viewport to activate, then click and drag on the Z-axis (blue). Middle mouse click to repeat operation.

sigh, I usually just drag it out and it DID start to work today lol. It’s just a matter of growing accustomed to it I suppse.
