Thanks -
and hey, are you in Schaumburg? So’s our studio! Feel free to stop in for a visit - let me know first…
modo book
Dan, you’re kidding me!? I’d love to stop in sometime! Where are you guys located? I was going to write and ask some 103 questions, but I guess I could just ask them in person LOL! Let me know where you’re at and I’ll be sure to stop in and see what you’re working on…after calling first, that is.
We’re at Meacham and Tower, across from Morton’s / Costco / Prairie Rock.
Email me dablan at earthlink dot net
cool dan, thanks. you’re studio is about 1 minute from my house. i’ll drop you a line sometime. it’d be a great chance for a noob like me to see some real 3d stuff first hand.
It will be in stores. I went to a local B&N today, but didn’t see it yet. Normally it takes a good month before books show up in the stores. You see, the book stores use distributors. So, once the book it out, it goes to a distribution center. Then they go to regional stores. Then some monkey in the back has to get around to unpacking them and finding room on the shelves between the Barnes & Noble brand books now taking up space, and the ever-growing Photoshop books.
Borders is often better.
Amazon has been selling it for weeks. And cheap too!
Happy To hear that … now i will buy the 3DGarage courseware and that Book …
I saw this Demo " Try " tutorial Video Part of 3DGarage CourseWare " http://www.3dgarage.com/3DG_Morph4.mov " and its so Nice and a great Tutorials Videos I hope … thanks Dan
hey dan, i went and grabbed the only copy of your book they had here in schaumburg (at borders of course.) awesome book! i really like the straightforward tutorial approach you went with. it was great to get started right away. i went ahead and bit the bullet and upgraded to 202 as well. thank goodness for birthday money!
i do have a question about the extra tutorial vids. when do you think they’ll be posted? i’m really excited to see the toy gun one.
That Borders is great - always has my books
Thanks for picking it up.
I’m working on the extra videos this week. I hope to finish them by the weekend.
But I also need to prepare for my Apple modo demo Saturday, and finish a few other things for some other projects…
yeah, that borders is nice. used to work there so i have a little different perspective, but the selection is top notch. i sent you an email last friday with some questions, but since i got the book, they’re all pretty much answered.
good luck with the presentation! wish i could make it out there.
I couln’t wait for the local bookstores to stock the book on Modo. So, I just bought both the book and the dvd course from Amazon.com. That turns out to be a wise purchase. I’m really having fun learning the software.
The only thing that makes me mad is that right now at work, we’re in prime time. I’m on two projects and both of them are coming due at about the same time. But, I’m surprised at what I’ve learned between the video tutorials and the book in a very short time. I’m still very much in the learning process. But, I like I’ve learned more from the tutorials and the books in this very short amount of time with NO and I mean NO frustration so far. Thanks Dan. Yoy really deserve all the success and more that comes from the sale of your courseware and book! For anyone thinking about buying the book or the courseware, stop thinking and just get the book and the courseware. After seeing things in this set that were I’ve seen mentioned before, I really am finally beginning to “get it”!
I’m now just beginning to model some sunglasses like in your book, and in the process really beginning to finally beginning to understand why this is such a powerful modelling app. Once these projects at work are completed, I look forward to spending alot of time completing the course and just practice using this very powerful app.
“For anyone thinking about buying the book or the courseware, stop thinking and just get the book and the courseware.”
A big AMEN to that!
I have both and have been too busy to start reading the book yet, but the courseware was fantastic - smoothly and gracefully easing you into using all the tools and techniques with a feeling of true accomplishment with quality results at ever step!
Dan has become my favorite teacher for this kind of stuff!
If you are interested at all in using modo, you absolutely NEED this stuff or you will waste many valuable hours on trial and error and inefficient techniques instead of fully leveraging the power of modo!

hi…im based in dublin, ireland and was about to purchase this book from the lux website. however the shipping method is way too expensive…exceeds the value of the book itself! is there an alternate method to purchase the book?
@ ekalavyan.
I got mine from [http://www.bookfellas.co.uk/scripts/browse.asp?ref=758192](http://www.bookfellas.co.uk/scripts/browse.asp?ref=758192) last week (ordered Tuesday & arrived Thursday).
I've just checked the shipping to Eire and it is £5 airmail.

You guys are too cool - thank you so much! The book and course were a lot of work, and took a long time to create. So, I’m very happy to hear that you’re learning from them. I’m adding a few new videos soon, that you can download for free. Two that go with the book and a couple more for the course. New courses will have them included, existing users can download them for free at 3D Garage.com.
Don’t ask me when, but soon.
Hi guys…
I do not know what to say about this amazing software!! I like it… I realy like it … I have been playing with the trial of Modo and my last opinion is that It is the greatest renderer and modeler ever.( I wish It had some rigging tools… ) I am a max user and I use a lot Maya for my job. I work in a company in Turkey. Our software in the company is Max version 8.
Forget the company.
I wanna buy Modo 203 … For my personal projects. I decided to buy it last week and started to look for training metarials. I also downloaded the whole free contents from luxology ofiicial web page.
They are great for first time. But not enough to help me on my next projects that I am gonno start when I get the MODO. So I realy need a great mentor. And " Luxology Official Modo Guide" is what I have to have. ( except for the DVDs and the other stuffes in Modo web page ) I wanna use a book which is very detailed and helpfull to teach how to use Modo. I am realy a newbie for modo and I have already started to learn it…
Anyway, Here is my request;
I am about to order some books which are related to 3d industry and CG art. ( expose sets, rigging and animation books and ect. ). The method that I am gonno use to order these books is not internet. ( It is quite expensive due to living in Turkey
I have a couple of friends that are not interested in CG and are enough old to have a conversation about this process.( They want to know some exact informations about what I need ) So I have to use them. They are about to come to Turkey in a few weeks. I think you got the idea.
1 - Is there any bookstore that sells Modo Luxology Guide book? If so, How can I have their adress or location. ( England and US would be great. ) I looked at the internet and was able to find nothing. ( As I said before buying from amazon and the other sites is too expensive… I cannot do that ) If you know one please fill me in about it. ( City, street, name bla bla bla… )
2 - Do you know any easy and safe way to order my book via internet? ( I mean, when I wanna do this, this book comes for 75 dolars approximatly ) Would you buy it If you were me?.. I don’t think so )
3 - Even though I am familiar a little bit with the contents of the book, I wanna learn more. Would you mind giving me some more detailed informations about the way the book uses… Subject of the tutorials… What the author creates for the tuts… )
Those questions may sound a little bit stupid. I know. But you are my last chance to answer them. I have to ask and learn. I do not wanna pay extras due to using internet, cargo, posting ant the other stuffes. The people who I know will soon be here and they have many suitcases to bring me the books…
Hope you answer my questions…
I have Dan’s courseware for LW 9 and his books as well. Best stuff out there. In fact, knowing that he was doing Modo courseware has seriously made me consider purchasing Modo. Ya know instead of “Be like Mike”, it’s “Be like Dan”…it’s a Chicago thing
(thou I’m in CA)
Ozioz -
glad to see you’re using modo!
Do me a favor and email me directly - dablan at earthlink.net.
I can help you with a book and training.
Regards,
Dan
Anyone who is learning modo needs this book. Period. It’s not just a re-write of the modo manual, but a practical hands-on program guide. I wish all 3D modeling books were written this way.
