I think image based sculpting idea is excelent, however the main question is how high does it go? Is 4096x4096 usable? Can u subdivide enough to see all the detail and keep some interactivity?

What about bigger maps?

You can use multiple uvmap and multiple layered images. And you can work on a 4k but its a little slow, but a 4k map is potentially 16million sample points.

Greg thanks for the explanations. Ingenious. With a bit of lateral thinking Luxology have carved out their own 3D niche in an overcrowded market (and in some respects leapfrogged the competition). As a Lightwave / ZBrush user Modo hasn’t seemed too essential but these sculpting developments are pretty hard to resist. And as Modo works so well with these apps guess it’s time to give in to temptation.
