I applaud the development of Modo and the innovative work of Luxology on this software. I have one comment for this so far as it pertains to the 1 gig movie download. It is quite a large look for those that are curious about Modo but do not have it yet. It makes more sense to break this big movie up into much smaller segments about particular topics or features.
modo 301 preview available
I believe they are actually working on splitting up the presentation to make it easier for users to download. The original was initially put together for registered users only.
It is the longest promo vid I have ever seen…Could be trimmed, but I thought it was well done and Brad.s clear delivery interspersed with the demo clips was not at all boring ,even at 1hr length…convinced me to add MODO to my toolchest. OY!
Just hope they don’t recant on the summer release of 301. :wip:
Could not agree more, it really was a great presentation. Only been using Modo a month or so but have already pre-ordered 301.
Does Lux ever offer “Buy now, get next revision free” kinda deals?
I can’t see spending $700 now just to add another $400 in 2-4 months.
Not to mention it’s prolly better to let it get released, patched to the 302, 303 level and then buy in…

is that mean Modo is going to be a complete software ???
like 3ds max maya and lightwave ???
yeah, that’s what it’s building into.
The “LW user Discount thread” has more info…If you can DL the 301 preview that has a lot of info in it too.
ok thanks
another question
is the next version is going to have hair and cloth ???
is the 301 going to have simulation with reality like rigid body and soft body ???
i mean like the reactor in 3ds max
if it going to have that i think it will be the great application in the planet
blender is great but i like the addition in modo 301
download this you will see everything here :

it is big but nice
i will download it
i like the new Modo
thanks
I don’t think we will see hair and cloth or hard and soft body dynamics in the 30* cycle. I would imagine we will have to wait until at least 401 for that. Never know with Lux though.
Because people will wait until 302-302 is realease and then bitch about 401 being just around the corner.
I tried the demo, and absolutely love modo. I would buy it right now if I knew I could get a free upgrade to 301, but as is Im going to wait until 301 this summer to buy in. damn I want it now though.
Saw your message. As of today 6/21/07 (1st day of Summer!), people who buy modo DO get the 301 upgrade at no charge when it is released. Boxed or download version - u cannot use discounts etc. Only for regluar version - not educational.
Enjoy.

Did I miss something? This new version intrigues me as well and looking into incorporating it into our school 3d program, but COMPLETE? I downloaded the demo video and didn’t see anything in the way of rigging, etc. So, complete, not even close. Modo 3.01 will rival the other apps. (btw, forgot to mention Cinema 4D) in modeling, but no character rigging features…
I am really excited about the new sculpting tools in Modo. Looks nice!

Every week this page is updated with the latest information about modo 301:

Yesterday a video and a sculpting example were added
Cheers!

DAZ is offering MODO 103 for $139.00 if you’re a Platinum Club Member, which costs $29.95 for the first month, then you can opt out. Then you can get the upgrade to 301 when it comes out for $295. That’s $463.95 total for Modo 301 if you don’t have any version at all. Regular full price for Modo 301 is $895.00, pretty good deal.
Anyone can tell me if luxology people said anything about viewport performance improvements in 301 ? Modo could sure use a rewrite in that area. I’m comparing its performance with Silo, another dedicated modeling tool, btw.

Just received a modo 301 email update. It didn’t say it was to be kept private and it’s too exciting to keep quiet…soooo>
modo 301 is now nearing completion, and we are in the final days of testing. In other words, we are very close to product release.
If you’ve preordered your upgrade, modo 301 will be available in your account the day we ship.
Do you own modo but haven’t pre-ordered the upgrade? I encourage you to do so soon. Consider this your “last chance” reminder to get to the Luxology store and upgrade to 301 at the special price of $295 (after we ship, the price will return to the regular $395 upgrade price).
Still not sure about whether to upgrade? Here’s what one of our beta testers wrote to us after using modo 301 for the first time:
“I’ve had a go in the latest beta! Speed!! It’s like 203 with a supercharger! Fantastic piece of software!!!” (Stuart Rowbottom)
This new release of modo is without question a thrilling moment in the evolution of Luxology’s flagship 3D product. I hope you will enjoy the experience of using 301 in your workflow as much as all of the developers and testers haveit has been an amazing journey.
Thanks again for your continued support and have fun.
