modo 301 morph to max - position problem

I have a mesh (.obj) exported from max 9. I import it into modo 301 (rotate it 180 to correct position) and I use the move tool to create a morph change. Works great so far.

I export back to max. When I select the modo morphed mesh as a morph target, the entire mesh moves up on it’s X axis. The morph changes work well, but the entire mesh itself moves up.

I chaeck each mesh and see that the pivot is the same. I therefore cannot figure out why the position change happens.

Can anyone shed some light on why this happens? Or what else I might check? Thanks for any help.

Try using the *.fbx importer and exporter for Modo and Max. You should get better results.
