Wes you bastid! Where did you get that LW8…

#262

This is something I’m working on, if I find some spare time I try to finish it. Don’t mind the textures, it’s just a test

Snoop, AWESOME man!!! can’t wait to see more. Post some other angles and soem wires…

#264

I HATE it when people kill me!

#265

I promise to make time to model more tonight Larry… these books are freaking killing my free time… I just told Steve, I can not wait to just work from 8 - 5 and actually get to have free time after 5 or 6… thats sad…

More to come…

#266

Thats ok Wes, Youll be out from under all that soon

#267

Man, you lucky dog, Wes - beta-testing 8 without us - shame on you. You’re head is shaping up nicely and Larry’s course is great. Larry is great - what a huge resource he is. Larry teaches a clever hybrid approach that I used in the latest speed modeling session - Zombies. Quick test renders using FPrime.

I just need to find time so I can continue with the rest of his course - but I’m kinda waiting for LW 8 to come out too. Wes, this is what you get to look forward to in Larry’s course - the horns are, of course, optional

#268

Hey Gary, thanks!
Man thats looking great!

#269

Thanks Larry! And here are some quick test renders using FPrime:

#270

Very freaky looking…a good thing in this case

#271

Now that I look at it’s side profile - reminds me somewhat of those creatures from Blade II, the ones that fed on the vampires. They were freaky lookin’.

Hey Larry,

I am just wanting to know if spline modeling hand works the same way as modeling a body…?

Peace and Modeling

Glad that u like this face, but I will post other renders when I have more time to work on the face. I keep u posted

This is a great tread

I’m working on a new character in between stuff and I must say that it’s equally important to learn all the different techniques and knowing (or feeling) when to use one rather than the other (because they all have advantages).

Here is my shot at Kurt Wagner (ala NightCrawler from X2):

I would probably never spline model a hand. Theres too many other ways that are much easier.

#277

Do you have a few examples of these methods? I just want a nice way to model a hand that would blend into my spline cage body. I am currently working on a new character with the methods I learned from spline modeling…and I was hoping to model the whole body seamlessly with a spline cage and manually patch everything, including the feet…

Peace, love, and Lightwave…

I agree with you totally on learning different techniques.“learn when the hold them and when to fold them”.

Nice model there, pixelranger! But humbly speaking, it seems to me Kurt’s face is a bit more of a tapered oval shape - a little skinnier if you will. But maybe it’s just the angle portrayed in the pic.

Again I wouldnt model hands or feet with splines unless I had some compelling reason like a gun to my head or a chance for world peace.
You can model things separately using more appropriate techniques such as box modeling hands or feet and then welding them into the rest of your geometry.

I agree that there are lots of ways to model but I find that a more traditional approach works better in general for people with little to no art background or little exposure to 3D.

Well, in general, i’d say a good model does not urgently have to be done in one single technique. Use whatever helps u and combine techniques. Splinemodeling a hand is not impossible, but makes not much sense. If you really want to, plan wise. A funny way to do that is overpaint your left hand with a marker, (splines not maori tattoos :p) depends on whats your drawinghand. oh, this is a great thread by the way
