Modelling a unique chair

Hi, can anyone teach me how to model the chair in the reference pic? PLeaseeee!

does anyone has any idea?

Which basic shape to start with? or should i use nurbs?

by the way, i am a Maya user.

I always use polys for modeling. The chair looks symetrical so thats going to make things a lot easier.

I would start out with the cylinder at the bottom

use smooth proxy and scale it -1 so you are modeling with a low poly cage and have the high res smoothed version on the other side

now just extrude edges and faces and build up the shape

then delete the low poly version and mirror the high poly half

thanks Alchemist101. I will try it up and post an update soon.

here is an update so far. The chair don’t really seem smooth though.

have you smoothed it?

ok. here is the latest one. I manage to merge the vertices and smooth it. And it kinda of work.

here is the latest update. i am glad the chair is finally taking it shape. Using the smooth proxy to help me now. It is a really useful tool.

I finally manage to finish this dining model. Thanks to those who give some suggestions.

The Wireframe.

so it’s a good start, but your chairs don’t have the same look or feel as the chairs in the image. this is because i think you’ve missed the idea of the chair.
the set looks like it was inspired by a flower, a tulip. the petals and the stem. they are much more curved than you’ve made them, try to work towards that.
here’s some scratch that hopefully will make sense
