Modeling a Cessna 172 Skyhawk

#1

How would you guys model this plane? What techniques would you use?

Lately, I’ve been attempting to make a Cessna 172 because my girlfriend loves them (she’s a pilot). I’m planning to make one with her name on it, I know she would love that.

I’ve been using 3ds Max. I properly cropped and positioned the blueprint in my scene and started off with a thin box where I would extrude gradually to make the basic shape. I added geometry along the way and made the fin as best I can with an extrusion. The only problems that are preventing me from continuing on with my modeling are the back fin and getting the overall shape of the plane right. The wings, landing gear and propeller shouldn’t be a problem for now, I’m focused on the fuselage.

For the body i would start with a low cage mesh (with sub-d modifier on top), very little verts to move around and minimize artifacts. Once the shape is good i would collapse the low cage to a higher density and then start cutting panels / details.
