Modeler Layout And Keys Configs

#1

Hi all

Im wondering if anyones found any really accurate layouts to run modo as close to LWs modeler as possible?

After doing a search, I`ve had a try at the http://vertexmonkey.com/scripts_interface.php lightwave style layout config, and while its ok, im hoping to find a more acurate one.

Also Im looking for a key config that mimics modeler pretty closely… If these are not out there, then I`ll try making a config myself.:slight_smile:

Thanks in advance.

you should try to make your lightwave layout yourself. but i would rather improve the layout to work the way way i like it, which i would think would be better than lightwave.

Why would you want to limit yourself to “LightWaviness”? Honestly I don’t think that LW’s hotkeys and menus were thought ought very well in the first place and guess what - I changed them all the way and assigned as much hotkeys as possible (that is, until LW Modeler didn’t allow fore more). If you asked me today, I wouldn’t even know where to find some of the menu commands. I started costumizing Modo similarly and even though I still have all the panels open, there might come a day when it’s all just one big 3D window with lots of hotkeys and some popup menus. If you take the time to get into the concept of Modo, you will soon realize that this is so much better than LW Modeler ever was…

Thanks for the advice but I dont have much time to really learn a new app right now and for me, more importantly wanted a quick way to get to grips with the some of the new tools. Also, at work I have to use LW so I dont want to muddle my head.

With MODO being sold as so customisable I was sort of expecting a really good, acurate config set for download on the luxology site.

Anyhoo, I`m still up for anyone with a good config, before I start to make my own.

it always better to design your own layout. no one knows better what you want. not even you untill you start designing it…then its like no other feeling knowing you have the best layout possible for you. like custom tailored suits. fits like a glove , etc. hehe

Word.

I used Lightwave for 4 years. When I got modo… I wanted to learn modo and forget everything I knew about lightwave. (IE jump in head first) Not that lightwave is bad… it’s what I picked from what was available.

It really only took a day to learn… though I certainly dedicated my efforts to it.

Now that I’m used to Modo default… Lightwave is UGH. =)

It feels great having the understanding of two tools at my disposal. Whatever you can do to get the job done I say.

Now I’m seriously concidering a jump to Maya on the rendering side… (Based on Dynamics, General Animation, and it’s ability to understand edge weighting).

Modo is responsible for a click in my brain for sure. =)

Im getting into it now...so Im persevering:)

But, am I the only one to recall these PR movies for modo that spent quite a bit of time saying how the app would mimic LW etc to a tee?

Working like the other packages is sadly not quite as easy or complete as these videos made out…

Sadly you are not the only one who remembers them that way. But I’m pretty sure that isn’t quite what they said. Configurable, Yes. Mimic, no.

#9

actually i remember them saying mimic too.

but the list of applications was bigger than just LW.

i guess you have to market your application somehow.

I recall the first advertising was really focussed on how its workflow/layouot could copy other apps… actually if I recall the first online promo vids seemed to focus mostly on this ability…

Now everyone says…just learn it, no need to mimic, and mimic doesnt really work anyhow…

…but thats not how it was sold…

Regarding doing your own layout…I did this…I radically changed the default layout which I wasn’t sure about…over a few days I made constant adjustments until I found a layout that was really good for me and made best use of screen space…I got a strange deja vue…I loaded up the original default to find my ‘new’ layout and Lux’s default layout practically identical…LOL
