Still a little bit waxy don’t you think ? But that’s great anyway

#462

Yea, tad bit waxy in areas and if you look at his color map in the thread you’ll see he’s loosing a ton of detail too.

#463

Its freaking great.
Off course there is some unwanted blur
around nose area, loosing bump,
but waxy? Not.
Its dead on skin. Wonderfull work.

#464

I didn’t say the whole thing is waxy, there are areas that are very waxy which are just minor tweaks. I’m not sure what humans you’ve been looking at but it’s far from “dead on skin” as you would put it. Still a great piece, minor tweaks and it will be excellent.

#465

c’mon man don’t say it doesn’t look waxy, just go out for a couple of minutes and come back with fresh eyes and look again, it’s like one of those wax figures believe me

#466

he should lower the specularity for the rest of the skin besides the lips, and it will look less waxy, the specularity in contrast with the skin is making the skin look as if it was very think, and translucent.

Hi there;

I´m getting problems with the Lightmap maya for the fast maya shader, I can´t put a shared directory for it to save the lightmap file, it only renders if I point it to a local directory, I mean something like “D:\Lightmap” is OK, but [\Cluster3\Lightmap](file://\Cluster3Lightmap) doesn´t, how can I point it to my shared directories?

Thank´s in advance.

#468

Ok, I admit, I reacted emotionally. This piece is so much
further from what I was getting that in a moment I thought
that I could make something more than just a globulous
relatives, nothing wrong with him though.
Off course there are many different issues in the rendering,
but I felt it real. As much real as it gets in cg.
How about some input before we here
from the author himself, I have a few questions.
It looks like a HDR lighting, fg also,
bump mapping is so superb in a places, bumpCombiner can be here too.
Waterblue displacement is propably used on other things than the skin
but I might be wrong.
One thing that comes to mind is reflectivity, something that I quite
oft3en overlooked, can it be that neutronic used some reflection planes?
What else?

#469

Yeah it would be nice to read sth about this still, some kind of ‘making of’ but i think that this is not as complicated as most of us may think, it’s just very careful and well planed work backed up with a lot of practice, when i’ll finish my current project i’ll give a shot to that whole sss stuff coz it looks yummy  take care!

#470

i think the slight waxiness might just come from the lack of much color variatoin overall. Still the best skin i’ve seen on here thus far.

#471

I dont want to be a smart ass but to make this clear: neutronic only crossposted this thread and maybe should have make it more clear that it isn’t his own work.

#472

I have a problem with HDRI and SSS together when I light the sceen with the HDRI I get no SSS at all it looks pink until it does its second pass and just goes like a lambert is there something I need to know about SSS and HDRI together?

heres my try at sss. one directional light, sky blue backdrop environment and final gather. i noticed that the problem with the light shining through the model and hitting the other side has occurred, have we found a solution to this yet?

#474

Hello.

This is a try sss image about brain. I will hope that do you like it.

#475

forget my last question i just turned raytracing on that light and the problem dissappeared.

i turned off final gather and added an area light to give the shadows alittle bit of blue. you can barely see it but heres my new results.

#476

Hello!!

Sorry, I mistaked de URL.

#477

He, he I could use one.
Great render, very beleiveble material.
There is some triangulation visible in places,
nothing good dof cant fix.
Could you give us some more insight on the shader.

#478

Cool render. The color is off though, brains are a bit more grey in color, and it looks a bit too much like “fatty” substance like the stuff that comes out of the vacuum after a lipo suction.

#479

Exactly brains are more grey, take a look HERE if you dare  it’s a sheep brain but you will get the general idea.

#480

so i just downloaded mix8layer, can anyone explain to me

a) how do use it in conjunction with sss?
and
b) where my color maps would be placed for my character using sss and mix8layer?

thank you for your help
