Mirroring Pose Issue

#1

I created a new layer and posed my character’s left arm and I want that same pose for the right arm. When I tried to mirror the layer, I would get this error:
Symmetry not yet initialized. Select two adjacent faces which are on opposite side of the mesh’s topological axis and use Mirror.

Okay, so even if I did select two faces on the opposite side, it still didn’t work. Anybody ran across this problem??? :frowning: :frowning:

you’re missing two step of the process.

  1. Select two adjacent faces which are on opposite side of the mesh’s topological axis
    2. hit ctrl-V to initialized the symmetry
  2. now press shift-S on the side that you want to be mirrored
  3. mirror > Tangent

After I selected 2 adjacent faces on the mesh’s topological axis, I hit ctrl+V and it would say “Symmetry not found. Select two adjacent faces which are on opposite sides of the topological axis and try again.”

It looks like the model isn’t topologically symmetrical. I can see something at the top of the nose that looks like it’s different on both sides. It looks a little like a vert has been welded near the centre plane on one side (possibly the symmetry modifier weld tolerance if it was made in Max).
