Mirai Type Bones Animation

#1

I was watching Bay Riatt’s modelling video and how he set up and manipulated the bones in Mirai- I know they have a supposed advanced bone setup where you can pin any joint and move the rest of the skeleton and the video showed that as being capable of some amazingly easy animation. Is it possible to do some type of setup like that in Messiah? I know it would probably take a pretty complex expression setup, but it sure would be nice to have once it was done. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear it.

mirai’s system is a full body IK system, much like you see in motionubilder, animanium, and now even maya. There are two types of pins positional and rotational, in mirai its a matter of pinning the bone or the joint. IK affets the entire body so a pin is what holds it in place. The reason such a system works though is because of limits, or Degree of Freedom as its refered to in mirai. Basically you set up the skeleton so it can only bend so far in any direction. too limited and things won’t budge and pop, too loose and things flop and curve and are difficult to control. It takes a fair bit of practice to get good at animating with such a system, but it does ahve a lot of advantages. imo it doesn’t save a whole lot of time compared to modern day rigging in that getting the right DOF for each boen takes a while.

No, Mirai isn’t, it’s just what I’ve seen in the video from Bay. I’ve got the tutorials from Joe Cosman and they are really great and that’s what led me to believe that there is a software package out there capable of that kind of bone animation it would have to be Messiah. I’m not all that proficient with it myself and have only played with the demo. It’s just one of those things where you see someone taking a fairly difficult task- complex bone/character animation- and making it really easy it makes you want to go jump on that band wagon. If you haven’t seen the video of what I’m talking about as a demo of what I’m looking for I’ve a linkfor the edge loop video that shows what I’m talking about.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m talking about!

I’m not sure if I understand what you’re saying because it seems once you had your range figured once it wouldn’t be too difficult to narrow that down to particulars to mimic over again.
