Title: Mini Cooper
Name: Richard Watkins
Country: United Kingdom
Software: CINEMA 4D, Photoshop

A model i made a while back, had a few problems with AA on the roof originally but i have just fixed it so i thought i would upload it here. Its not as detailed as it could be, there is no interior but i am overall quite happy with it.

Hi Ric,

That’s a nice clean render, with good lighting and reflections.

The alloys look a little wierd, and the headlights look like they could do with some tweaking (the interior lights don’t seem to be reflecting much, or anything, and they should be a soft mottled chrome.)

Are you going to model the windscreen wipers? Go on, it’ll finish it off!

Nice work tho, just needs a bit more tweakage!

You have an excellent car render style at the moment,a little more detail couldn’t hurt though.

#4

one of the bests i have seen today
there should be seats in it

#5

Very good.

I use C4D, why cant i get my car paint to look like that!!?? :scream:

#6

Great work, the render settings and the modeling looks nice, and great job on the materials…but there needs to be an interior!

#7

Great all work…light, model…render…shader…so beautiful… what time render??

#8

good work ric  especially the lighting and shading rocks

#9

greate work.
could you please show the mesh. in all views (top, front, back etc.). I have some worries about scale and proportions, but it might be because of perspective view.

#10

Looks great!

#11

Excellent work!

Care to share your paint and lightsettings?

Thanks all for the comments!

Yes there is still more to do i guess!, KnickKnack - yes the headlights need some work - they were the last bit i worked in and i just wanted to get it finished by that point!

I will post some screens of the mesh and lighting setup aswell as material settings later on

Cheers!

Ok here are some details - first of all the mesh in its unsubdivided form -

Now the car paintwork texture - quite simple really - Only 1 channel! -

And lastly the lighting setup - Environment object with fog, Array of 8 lights right above the car, and 2 luiminous planes to reflect in the car paint (GI was set at one bounce and low settings)

The render took 12 minutes at 900 by 645

Also i altered the the Curves in Photoshop which i personally think improved the image a lot

Thanks all!

really nice, really.

But what I dont get is why u used fog on the enviroment object? What effect were you trying to get?

#15

Hi Byla, Thanks!

Well i discovered rather than using a sky object or a sphere even, it is possible to use an environment object with fog activated to light the scene when GI is switched on

you see how the background fades to a darker colour - that is becasue of the fog, if i had just used a sky object the colour would have been more constant

ps - for some reason my material pic isnt appearing, i’ll try and reupload it
