#1

ok, i am in, too. Here is my first image for this challenge. It’s still WIP. I wanna use a wall and maybe some wood and also something with iron…
hope you like it, wireframe later

polycount: at this time 436
software: 3Dmax5, Photoshop
time: i dont know…maybe 2 hours at this time

best regards,
Gadric

ok i add my last beauty render here, so you guys are not to scared from the first picture:D
hope you like it and dont be to shy to write something so that i get more c&c’s. The challenge is not ended yet, so i have still some time to improve the model…

#2

looking good! need more pics

#3

it’s good
but if you make a scene for this maybe show your model better

hi there, here is an update, i tried to make it a bit rounder, what do you think? And i tried out the vertexcolors, this is a great feature i think.
Currently i am at 386 Polys and i have much place left on the textures…

Don’t be shy!

ok, now i am at 520…only because i wont let the gate allone like many others of you…
but i wanna add so much more stuff…:scream:

my bmp texture looks like this at this time:

still some place for wood and iron things i wanna make…maybe some runes or such stuff…

best regards,
Gadric

wow…your texturing is very good…and yeah, i think i prefer the rounded arch to the flat one

can you take a screengrab of the inside of your tomb please (stairs leading down) ?

i can see it in the top right screen, but only the top step or two…

thanks, yes there are only few steps down, i didnt want to waste polys there, because the goal is a gate, so the stairs are only for good looking:D
When i am finished with the moddeling and there are some polys left, then i will make more steps, perhaps a stair outside

greets,
Gadric

if you drop some rock it seem more better if you want to use th polygons
and the grass dont grow up on the rocks!

#9

that climbing grass = ivy

i think it’s a great touch…and the cobwebs too

maybe i make some droped stones, but i also had some steel and wood in mind so i must see what i can do with 120 polys  and the free texture space.
and yes…i have to correct the “grass”
i hope, i can improve it enough to make it unique.
The impression to this gate comes frome the books of “Wheel of time”. There are doors all over the world, which were built tousends of years before…If you take this doors, you go into the “short ways” (i am not sure about the right english word for it). This short ways connect the doors over the world and you can save much time if you take this short ways to reach another door in another city…But the “short ways” are forbidden…Now its a dangerous place…were something lives…nobody knows, what it is…

so, read robert jordan’s “wheel of time” its one of the best roman and in germany its not finished  i am at book 27…

greets, Gadric

PS: Update maybe tomorrow

#11

hi
my english isn’t good so excuse me for fails
so it ust be dangerus but i don’t think in this way

#12

looks great Gadric… but who the heck would build a gate leading into a rock wall?

Jussst kiddin, excellent texturing, very slick tiling work!

#13

thanks, here a small update:

image removed and added in first post

#14

hey, here comes some more nice renderings. I had not much time for updating the mesh…hope i will make it ready to the deadline. Now this are 580 Polys with the given texturesize.

please give crits and comments so i got some ideas for the finishing move
Oh and which perspective do you prefer?

best regards,
Gadric
