Minas Tirith Project || Part 2

#421

@rava12: The only proportions that you’ll have to watch are the proportions of the building itself. I’ll make sure that it get’s it’s correct size compared to the rest of the city when I composite it.

@MainlineX: Your building is getting better with every post! Keep 'em coming

I will work in that:)

Ok i am not part of the project or anything and i appologize if this is not considered useful information for the project and i dont want to intrude your forum or anything but i am a big fan of this project and i would just like to inform those who arent already aware of this, that if you buy the collectors extended edition gift set of “The Return of The King” DVD that is released on the 15th of december (in the United States that is), it ships with a complete exact replica model of Minas Tirith by Sideshow Collectables. And i believe it will be valuable information for the project and to also complete your 3d render replica. If you were unable to find the website i have provided the link here to where more information can be found regarding this subject…

Hey guys. Sorry for not posting for a long time. Been a bit busy with many projects. Though, i WILL not take this long with other buildings.

I sent 5rf01 by email to Janssen, i don’t think he got it. So i’ll just link it here.

5-rf-01 - In 3ds and Obj format.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

@Glory of the West: I knew that the extended edition comes with a miniature of the city and I’m going to buy it of course  I hope that it will indeed help with the layout of the city.

Another thing that helps MUCH more is that I’ve been speaking with Alan Lee (concept artist for the LOTR movies) and he shared some very useful information with me. This way I’ve been able to construct the sixth gate and get a propper place for the houses of healing.

@Admiral Ra: I received your building some time ago and I thought that I replied, but something seems to have gone wrong. Anyway. I’ll make some minor adjustments to the building and put it into the city.

#426

Cool. Sorry if there were things wrong with the building. I’ll try to improve more.

What building am i assigned to next?

I finally got registered on CGTalk. Here is the WIP on 4-rf-08.

Hopefully these picture links work…

I also noticed another builing on the 3rd level that looks nearly identical to 4-rf-08 except the roof. Can i go ahead and knock out that one too?

Because of another photo I stumbled upon in the Reference section, I altered the walls a little, and I went ahead and made the other building.

Here’s 4-rf-08

Here’s the other building on the 3rd level

I noticed in the closup pic (seen on the left of my 4-rf0-08 pic) I found in the reference section, that there is considerable detail on the friez (freis? sp?) of the roof. Should I model that, or leave it alone to preserve the polycount?

#429

Hey Pjanssen…I have completed the building, I would just like to know if I can send the file to you in .mb (Maya Scene File) format? or should I export it as another file format??

MainlineX

#430

Hi Pjassen i’m just wondering if you are working on the map, and placing the Nc buildings. would really like to start working.

#431

I can’t handle Maya files, so please export them to .3ds and send them to Pier.Janssen@Endless-dimensions.com

Oh you’re waiting for me to update the map? If so, I’m sorry for not having done so yet. But why?

#432

Ok here’s a new version of the map:

Large version

#433

Hi again.

I’ve got 2-nc-3 and that’s still not on the map. Hope you can fix that =)

#434

Ah I see, I’ll add them too.

edit:
done

#435

Wow! I fell i love with the white city of Gondor in the books, I fell even more when I saw the movies and now you guys are modeling it. It is just beautifull. What can I say…you guys rock!!! I’ll just sit here watch and drool to the next update till it’s complete! Again you guys rock!

#436

Bleh. Fell a little further behind.
But I finally got a good start on it. I’ll attach an image of what I’ve modelled so far today.
When browsing through the DVD, I couldn’t really find any good reference shots of the particular building I’m modelling (1-lf-16), so I’m basing it in part off of what the large, hand-drawn map suggests that the building is supposed to look like, and in part off of the general design elements used in the rest of the buildings that have already been made. If anyone has a good shot of this building, I could definitely use it. Otherwise I’ll just keep building it this same way.

Hello and WOW

I’m very impressed: such a huge project where everybody does his own small thing and it works great. Good job on all of you.
Normally I would have offered some help, but I’m pretty new to the 3d creation scene and I’m working with blender
I’ll be following this project with a lot of interest though

Greetings
Doggy

Ps: first post

#438

Hey…finished with building 3-rf-09…here is what she looks like…anyways…I seem to be having problems exporting it to .3ds format, I don’t know why, but it is going all buggy on me…I am converting it via Deep Exploration, and seem to get problems…anyways, should I be Triangulating it before I convert??? Any help would be greatly appreciated so that I can send it to PJanssen ASAP…Thanks…:)

anyways…here is building pic…

#439

Wow… very, very nice.

#440

MainlineX: your building looks very nice indeed! I’m pretty sure that Simon (synthesizer) will be able to help you with your exporting problem, he uses maya too.
