Minas Tirith Project || Part 2

#221

well, i wouldnt mind plugging it, that you guys need help on the project and all. but i would also expect atleast a section of the castle finished that you could make an interesting screenie of.

#222

Hey, is anyone doing this building? Its 2-lf-08. If not I will do it.

#223

@ambient-whisper:
What do you mean with ‘finished’? I mean, fully modelled, textured and lit?
If so, that currently impossible for us to do. The model isn’t the problem, because that’s finished already.
But the textures are a problem. I’ve been looking for months for a texture artist who wants to make the textures for this project, but I never got any replies after sending hundreds of PM’s and mails. So it’s almost paradoxal, for a good ‘advertising-place’ you have to show something finished, but before you can show something finishedm you’ll need to get a good ‘advertising-place’ to get people who can do it…

@Synthesizer: That building is all yours

#224

even if you put that entire section of minas tirith, aim the camera from a neat perspective, put a few lights around and render it in maya ( without textures, ) it should be fine. just make the picture interesting to look at. itll sell better.
even if it looks like this. i dont see any textures on that pic, but it still looks interesting.

#225

New picture 3 posts lower…

#226

It looks nice, but there’s a real problem with that image… the white background. It makes the scene look very empty :frowning:

#227

hi,
i have started modeling building that Pjanssen gave me. but also school started and i have just a little bit of time. anyway i think i can finish it in some short time.
i made a terrible mistake that i choosed 3dsmax for this thing. i realy miss some tools from maya as apend polygon tool etc.
here is some realy early wip. i just need some comments if add or remove geometry before it’ll be late. how large was limit for a building? most expensive thing on this are those … how is that in english (pile, pillar, column, thats what a dictionary told me =) … i should realy use fewer segments

just sorry for my english

#228

@Ysaneya: Yes you’re absolutely right. I’ll render a new version with a black background (since I don’t have anything better to use as a background)

@Mathew_er: Great to see that you’re still on this project! Your WIP looks nice for a start. There isn’t a real limit for the building, but if you could try to keep it on 40.000 tri’s (you’ll see that by ‘faces’ when you render) I think that you could indeed put the segments on the pilar a little lower. (Also take a look at the interpolation of the spline, if you put that 1 or maybe 2 lower it will safe some polies to without losing detail.)

About that maya tool, what does it do? Maybe that I know a similar tool for it in max…

@Ambient-whisper:

Large Version - 1300x750, 140KB

#229

Pjanssen:
interpolation is at one. in this stage it is 1500 polys per pillar with 24 segments. i know its realy high value. at 16 segments its a thousand polys and it still remains “round”. ill try to dont use pillars so much. its expensive.
that tool creates a polygon between two edges so u dont have to extrude an edge and then move veticies and at last weld or collapse. is there at least some tool that moves a verticle or egde to another? i mean that i dont like when you weld or collapse two verticles they become one and move to middle of their distance.

#230

plugged.

hopefully you could get a little more of the community to help out. cheers

#231

OMG my dream come true!

Please check out my website at www.idigitalhouse.com

Can I join please?

I am a very experienced Max artist, with huge experience in site design and architecture. Please see portfolio on website. I checked out the webpage, and looked at Join, it said to come here and ask to join so here I am.

Thanks, and looking forward to a rocking time.

Chris Johnson

#232

Yes you can! We really need more ppl to join, cause it’s a huge project, so be my guest and invite your (3d) friends to :scream:

#233

Hello there,
I think your project is really interesting and I´m sure I wanna be a part of it.I think I´m experienced in modeling houses or stuff like that, so if can I´ll be pleased to join you…

Excuse my english

Pluged-in

Hi,

I just found out about this project, and it looks interesting, but I have some questions.

In your website, you ask for the models in 3DS format… this format will triangulate the meshes, so I don’t think it’s a very good choice. OBJ will keep quads and UVs and is also available for every app.

Also, will the final city model be available to download?

thanks,
Bruno

I uselightwave for all of my modelling and consider myself pretty good at modellling architecture, while I can’t guarantee anything, I would love to help you out, i was wanting to do this kind of project for a long time and I got pretty far on my own Minas Tirith like city, but my computer couldnt handle the poly load, anyhow if you would like some help drop me an email at:

halfling85@yahoo.com

I would love to participate, just give me something that needs modelled that nobody else is doing and lots of reference pictures and I will help you out as best I can… Here are some pics from the afformentioned project of mine that never got completed if you want to judge how good you think I am…

Sorry dial-up users about the large images, I meant no harm :)…

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: boing boing boing!!! AMAZING modeling, really massive mesh !
I really love architectural modeling and here I found a MASTER…:buttrock: master ! master of puppets…

#237

Holy muffins! This is so freaking awesome!!

I love the architexture from Minas Tirith!

I don’t know if i should join…I’m fairly new to 3D and suck at it. :frowning: (Some of my works)

Really great work so far guys! It just looks…Awesome!:expressionless:

Oh! And! If someone joins, do you have to use a specific software for modelling, texturing, etc?

#238

JEBUS! How did I miss this!? :bounce: This stuff is amazing!

#239

This is a fantastic project just what we’ve been needing…

Im definately in! . . . plz write to me at animator@effilang.com.

Hi, i just downloaded and launched the Viewer . . now is it my monitor set up or is the Lighting rather overexposed…it was quite uncomfortable to view with such high brightness. . .
