amazing print of rex.
now i want one XD

#159

still don’t know how to texture it in Zbrush. I will keep trying. : )

#160

I can’t even model a Mailbox, so when you say don’t laugh at that awesome model of Solid Snake, I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything 3D-wise.

That Rex model is A-freaking-MAZING. You rule. Keep it up.

#161

Zbrush texture update, need to find higher resolution reference images.

#162

looking good, man!

#163

Nice work all round. Still, can’t help thinking why you didn’t go to Protodemon for the 3D Print as they are just on you’re doorstep?

#164

Great work Kirby. The RP model looks excellent. Can I ask what your set up is for this render? Renderer, materials+settings, lighting, etc?

#165

I know I may be late to say this but it ain’t stopping me from saying “Good job on the Rex man!” Seeing Rex in 3D better than the in-game version itself I mean, man…

If you somehow, one way or another gets the Konami’s green light to produce a 11 inch figure of this Rex, I will list myself in the preorder list haha

It’s been 4 months since my last update. I am at Hong Kong right now. Just had a chance to meet Des (who printed my Rex) in person yesterday. He showed me his other amazing works. What an eye opening experience. He gave me a lot of new idea. I will pick up this project of mine when back to home.

Hi all:
Just came back from Tokyo. Too bad, I missed the Tokyo Game Show cause no hotel available before that weekend. Like last year, I tried to search metal gear item whenever I had a chance. I was planning to buy the robot action figures from Peace walker but it got delayed until Nov. After visiting Akihabara (秋葉原), I came back empty handed. On the last night of my trip, I finally found the MGS 4 art book. It has a lot of new details for Rex and Ray. So I am going to restart this project. The Rex design has changed quite a bit from the old one. I will rebuilt most of the Rex. Right now I am in the stage of sketching details in AutoCAD. Hope to show you the update soon. The most exciting part is the cockpit, tons of details.

Man your work is just great love the modeling as well as your texturing starts. Wondering what are your render settings and materials for the reflective floor as in this scene i’ve quote.

#169

Hi NineBreaker:

Sorry for the late reply, I was tied up by some work. There is no special material to the floor. Just normal reflective material (reflective value 245) with no glossiness. I rendered the image with Vray and HDR map only.

this is looking awesome

#171

One word WOW.

Awesome model Kirby, really like the render bro.

Keep up the good work

It’s been 7 months since my last update. I have been very busy with my new job and freelance work. Although I don’t have much time to work on this project, I still come here every few days. I notice people are still reading this thread. So just want to say hi to you all and hopfully I can get back to this project asap. : )

#173

Ohhhh, I would love a 3D print of that. I love Rex.

#174

Rex from metal gear and ED 209 from robocop are 2 of my favorite mechs ever.

#175

It’s been more than a year since last update. Some of you might heard that 3A toys finally announced the Rex in production. I asked my friend in Hong Kong to pre-order for me. The shop said it wll arrive in Aug and I will visit HK in Oct to pick it up. The railgun is amazing. : )

I know, I am so freaking excited. I just saw the rail gun video for the first time from your link and I am even more excited!!! Sadly the price is insane, if only I had the disposable income, it would be totally worth it. Amazing Rex model by the way!!!
