messiah Video Tutorial!

#1

Here’s the first video tutorial (.wmv format) on how I use SSS with messiah 2.4d. I essentially learned this on my own. So, this is not the final word on SSS in messiah. So, with that having been said … I hope you guys will learn something new … enjoy!

i am glad to see it first and be able to set the first reply!
thanks! chikega

Hehe, pelos, you beat me to it.

Great work Gary! :applause:

EDIT:
I just watched it and you have doen a great job. Man, SSS seems so easy now.

Wow! I love the presentation. Sexy opening. I immediately want to DO IT!
But! But I have to do a gig by Monday! And OF COURSE you release this gem today! ARGHghGH!

Thanks for a very good and clear tutorial!

Thanks a lot! Now the Black Art of SSS should become accessible even for a noob like me …

Chikega: I’ve watched it a few times now - fantastic. I love the way you clearly breakdown your search into the variables. I have to internalize this in my own work. The only thing that bothers me after repeated viewing (and this is a testiment to a very successful tutorial) is the title - one word after the other instead of maybe two blocks.

Thanks for a great overview and I’m looking forward to the next segment with textures.
Hopefully Taron will be inspired to contribute his tutorials as well!

Really pearly!

Thanks Gary for sharing generously. The intro is so inspiring and the tut so clear.

Hard to believe it took you a month to learn only that! Just kidding. You make it look really simple!!

very good tut! thanks alot for your effort.

#11

Tks a lot Gary:thumbsup:

#12

Thanks so much! Awesome community that shares. I can’t look at it right now, but I’m sure it will help me in numerous ways to understand the shading thing in messiah.

Best,
Rick

Fantastic work Gary, really clears up a few things for me.

#14

Amazing! Big thanks for sharing.

Very useful nugget of messiah sss info. Thanks very much. Did you acheive the multi-layered look on the “dollop” in your pic using sss alone?

#16

Thanks everyone. I’m full of warm fuzzies … makes me want to do more vids.

Leebert: The image above is a straight render and was created with several layers of procedurals affecting the SSS shader in various ways. It renders very quickly since it’s not volume based, but it does hint rather nicely at being volumetric. I’ll do a tutorial on it and plan to include the project file in the next messiah update - so, everyone can dissect it.

#17

Gary, that would be very, very nice. Thanks!

#18

I really liked this tutorial. Keep them coming.

Hi Lads and Gary,

Me a complete newb to Messiah. Where is the SSS Shader located, OR does one have to build it?

Go easy on me, learner driver.

Outside of this Gary Nice Vid, though I have said this in other 3D app boards. Do not assume when creating tutes. I have done it myself, gone back and added complete newb steps / filled in any holes where necessary. Even text explanation!

Hope this is OK to say,
Cheers
Aidan

Check out these videos on how to use the render. Transluncey is part of any basic material you set up as an option.
