Messiah Demo Unstable on two system

#1

On my NetBook ASUS EEE PC, I downloaded the demo version, when I open the software the tabs and all the buttons in the interface panels were blank. No letter or wording on the tabs indicating what it does.

I messed around with the integrated graphics card setting, un-installed and re-installed Messiah twice with no change.

Ok, I left my Netbook and went to the big guy…my Desktop. Quad Core CPU, Nvidia Geforce 9800, 8 GB ram, two 1T HD for independent dual boot, Vista and Linux, both 64 bit.

I down-loaded and installed the demo …launch the application …and walla …the lettering on the tabs were visible. But when I move the mouse across the application its like a disco-show! Messiah panel and button just kept blinking, occasionally the screen would go blank(or blacked out)

When I click on the tabs New panels and buttons would appear…but as you move the cursor towards them they would suddenly dissapear. I tweaked my NVIDIA driver…made everything Open GL …since Messiah said they were heavily Open GL.

I set the control to make the software dictate the setting …nothing works …Messiah is like a cornered rat ready to jump off my screen as soon as I touch the mouse.

I have used Blender, demoed C4D…nothing like this. What gives?

I have read good things about this software, here and elsewhere, but why would they provide a buggy demo …if its just the demo thats buggy?

If its some known adjustment to facilitate the software why wouldn’t they get ahead of the curve and provide the necessary details?

Well i’m not a messiah user. My guess would be the net book no way. you big boy pc , well i bet it not running top notch only because the demo is an older version and wasn’t built for vista in mind, let alone 64 bit.

Actually calilifestyle, of all apps I’d pick to run on a netbook. . . messiah would be it. On my wife’s old 1.2ghz Athlon with a PCI 3DFX card. . . I can animate just fine.

truenovice: search around for answers to your issues. On your netbook you probably have to install the latest Intel graphics card drivers and enable or dissable tripple buffering. (Something like that)

On the Vista64 machine its again. . . a driver issue. There is a tweak utility for Nvidia cards that fixes it. A guy named Lost Pencil discovered the fix.

The NetBook is more capable than some give it credit for…I also have a dual core Dell laptop from work and my NetBook runs all Microsoft Applications much faster.

I don’t even think of using this to model or animate (though with Blender it runs flawlessly) I use to familirize myself with the application, if I want any serious work done I use my PC.

Any how I read the guide provided by Messiah …who also talked about the display drivers …which I have checked already to make sure I have the latest release.

And I have also tried to tweak the settings. I would buy the argument that the 2.5 demo may be buggy with Vista 64 bit.

But so far …everything else I’ve thrown at Vista have worked, without my having to mess around with the driver settings.

I’ll try again tonight after work.

Free at last …free at last!

Ok …not exactly sure which of the multitude of adjustment made to my Nvidia control did the trick. At first when I focused on the Anti-aliasing feature I saw no change. There is a feature …“vertical sync” …that was initially set to …“use the 3D application setting” …I changed it to… “FORCE ON”!
I think this was the issue, this was why my panels were dancing all over as I moved the mouse.

Now it’s stable … only minor issue is on my Desk top I have dual 22" monitor, when I move the application to the right monitor and right click the tabs … the pop up windows appear in my left monitor. The quick fix is just use the left monitor where the pop ups appears where it should be…later I’ll see if further adjustments can fix this. Before Messiah all apps I’ve used, their pop ups appear in the window where the app is sitting when the app is maximized in the monitor.

I had no such luck however on my Netbook, the integrated GMC video display doesn’t have these settings. Maybe, I’ll dig around when I have some time.

But thanks folks … now its time to put this software to the test!

woo-hooo!
