Merging groups of points

#1

When I use mirror for modeling symetrical objects, when I freeze the mirror I have double points/polys in the middle… what is the fastest way to merge points that overlap (share the same coords) and eliminate the polys where parts of symetrical geometry meet? LW and Modo have vertex merge based on distance… is there something similar in Wings?

And btw, I’m a fresh Wings user, but I’m already loving it… I just need to solve theese workflow issues…

Tnx!

Body mode
R-click -> Cleanup

L_click on the little box to the right of the cleanup command will bring up a dialogue that allows you to set the distance tolerance (“Length Tolerance” - default is “0.001”).

It’s usually best to “re-center” all your mirror plane vertices before applying virtual mirror (VM), though. :slight_smile:

Select center plane (the face you’ll be using for VM) in face mode.
R_Click -> Flatten -> choose the axis perpendicular to the mirror plane …usually “X”.
Then Tools menu -> Center -> choose the same axis. (usually X)

That’ll put all the verts on the same plane centered (=0) on the (usually X) axis.

Also, you should make sure, before using VM, that VM face has no internal edges (Select all the faces that comprise the mirror plane and hit “Backspace” to turn the mirror plane into one big ngon). If you are using VM correctly, you shouldn’t be getting duped verts in the first place. :wink:
