MentalRay 3.9 - native UI integration
Hi, I just download the files from: MentalRay 3.9 native integration 1.2.2 (maya script)
And the iray panel isn´t showing in the render settings in maya 2012. I test it in maya 2013 and is ok.
Should I use the MentalRay 3.9 native integration 1.2.1 (maya script) insted?
Thanks.
Hi, where i can find documentation about the new ibl? how to use? (ie lighting mode, light cache, etc…, should i turn it of or on?) i cant find in help (F1)
should i create IBL (in indirect tab) before tweaking native ibl? what it light relative scale?
kinda new for this stuff… any tips very appreciated, thanks!
Hey asinn,
don’t highjack this sticky thread with such questions.
This is “only” about the script.
Just do a search in the Maya Rendering Thread - plenty of infos there…

Well, this is a good explenation:

Hi, i am a new member of the cg society.
I have read through this whole thread and many others, and vastly appreciate what you’ve all figured out.
if someone could help me set up iRay, i would be so stoked. I’ve installed the dlls into the bin folder(from my standalone 3.9), kept the stock maya 2013 prefs. and everything seems to have worked seemlessly. however, after activating the iray settings and trying various mental ray materials, my renders are still CPU based slugging along not sharing the load on the gpu at all., and the bsdf materials render completely black.
my video card is definately CUDA based, any ideas?
i have to use mental ray for my current project…so i just installed this and it seems pretty fast. however like someone else on this thread my iray is using full cpu even tho its in GPU mode. anyone know what i might be doing wrong with that…very interested to see what kind of juice i get from the gtx 590
Hi and thank you for this great script!
Can someone tell me which files do have I to delete if I want to install everything but not the Iray tab?
First thanks for the sharing
I just tried as what you put there, and copied the three dlls
cudart64_32_7.dll
libiray.dll
libiraymr.dll
into the bin directory
when I check on iray, the result seems not good, whatever materials I put, it constantly renders out like white models without reflection or transparency. Any one can give a bit?
Iray only translates the mia material from Maya. And not layered. Be sure and check out the post on the nVidia Maya forums for the workflow restrictions. It’s a sticky near the top.
Appreciate that.
Got it worked, but whatever light source used, if I turned glossiness below 1, images always had some white pixels like overexposured, mainly around highlight areas. I looked up on google couldn’t find a solution, thanks! :bounce:
I have a question.
mental ray for Maya 2013
mental ray: version 3.10.1.11, Jul 26 2012, revision 177995
IRAY 0.11 29 MB warn : unsupported shader adskMayaLambert, defaulting to grey diffuse
how to resolve this?
If you have time,Please give me the answer. maya2013 sp2

Thanks for this script, made my life easier by having me not need to input those string options every time i open a new scene.
Would you have a link to the manual explaining what each setting does. Maya 2012 does describe what many of the options does in the bottom of the screen but doesnt describe some of them, like the ones under the pulldown menu of some options.
Like what do the new final gather tracing modes do and “light relative scale” under framebuffer.
Somehow there are also issues with it when lighting an object with mia material shader(works fine with blinn), particularly the object turns dark when you enable FG and doesnt display bump maps correctly.
Also when i do not get an IRAY tab when i installed it. I just copied all the scripts in the download from creativecrash, into my maya 2012/scripts folder.
I might try this one: http://elementalray.wordpress.com/2012/08/10/new-maya-rendering-ui-testing/
This builds on the ideas present here into a more native workflow designed by nVidia.
Explanations for the new options can be found in the mental ray release notes in the Autodesk Online help.
