mental ray (Maya) -- geometry is see-through?

#1

Hey guys,

I’m trying to render an animation with mental ray, but the character’s eyes are semi-transparent around the edges.

Basically the model is really simple, as I’m a rookie, and the eyes sort of go “into” the head as they were 2 separate meshes that I combined.

This looks fine in Maya and when I render using Maya Hardware, but with mental ray the colliding bits go semi-transparent. How can I fix this?

(Note: the screenshot is in ‘smoothing’ mode – the actual geometry isn’t that weirdly curved everywhere. Also, I can’t go back and change the geometry because I just finally finished animating, etc. and wanted to render it. >_<)

If mental ray can’t be fixed (but there must be a way? it’s so advanced), maybe there’s an alternative? But Maya Hardware & Software make it look like crap and even shows the NURBS curves and whatnot.

is that not just the reflection from the surrounding green geo?
beacuse if you look at the bottom you can also see some pink reflected there too…

Good God, I’m a moron. Thank you so much! I didn’t think it was reflective as it’s not smooth around the edges. It looks like see-through geometry. >_<
