Mental ray matte/shadow/reflection causing long render

Hi,

I’m having a problem with rendering with mental ray in 3ds max. I have a fairly complex scene with a car, mr daylight system, and a plane with the matte/shadow/reflection material applied to it and I am using an environment map for reflections. Before I created the matte/shadow/reflection plane, the render would not take longer than 40 seconds, but once I created the matte/shadow/reflection plane, the render would remain at “rendering…” for ages.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
