Memory usage

#1

I discovered this morning that my machine uses quite a bit more memory for a freshly started Messiah, than that of two other users in the Messiah IRC channel. Their copies were somewhere between 0.5 MB (yes, I know unbelievable) and 5 MB right after startup. My Messiah used a hefty 117 MB!!!

Now I wanted to check how much the normal amount for you guys out there is. So fire up your Messiah and take a look in your Task Manager! :buttrock:

Don’t believe the Task Manager…
… if you don’t have the “Virtual Memory” column activated.
Windows puts everything into virtual that isn’t used for some time. So if you don’t switch to any other Tabs, after some time your memory usage may look very low, but if you switch through all Tabs one after the other, it may rise quite a bit.
If you have that additional column active, you can see that it is mostly moving between RAM and virtual.
Windows does that not only if memory is low but all the time!

Right now, it uses 1.9 MB, but the virtual part is 70MB with nothing loaded but the startup scene.

I learned that back at Passion Pictures from Mark Wilson when I had a scene that jumped from some MB to a GB just by switching tabs
And I thought I had found a memory leak >LOL<

Cheers,

Well, mine uses 117MB Virtual and 105MB actual right after startup. But seeing the votes already there, it seems to be a more or less normal value.
