mechanical/organic modeling examples?

I’m interested in modeling something like this robot by Dave Wilson:

It’s a beautiful combination of organic flowing shapes and hard surface mechanical machine modeling. The portfolio http://www.3dluvr.com/davewilson/ shows many of the techniques he used for this; there are lots of extrudes, copies, scales, and and revolves of separate parts for the mechanical complexity.

I’ve used Wings a little bit; it seems perfect for doing faces/organic models. Has anyone tried doing something mechanical like this in it? I don’t think the typical tools for mech modeling (extrude, revolve, part copy, boolean) are part of the Wings toolset, but I could be wrong. I’m sure it’s possible; I’m just curious if it is a good fit and whether people have tutorials/guidelines/examples for this type of thing.

Thanks,

Eliot

Well revolves may be out of the question in the sense of lathes and spline like stuff, though work arounds are easy enough to replicate same anyhow, but YES, it is very possible to do this type of stuff in Wings… and not all that hard to do either, just takes the usual work required to model is all… you know, ya have to see it, know the tools and sculpt on eh
