You can open the MDL file in a text editor like Notepad and through trial and error edit out the portion of the file that is causing the problem. Work on a copy of the MDL, not the original, so you can try all sorts of combinations. If the file worked before, it was probably the last thing you added…I would delete that first.
Always make multiple copies of your MDL’s and PRJ’s by saving to a new file name (I use the date and a letter) every time you make a change so you can go back to the most recent previous version if something goes wrong.
The file crashed AM for me as well, after deleting a few things here and there I got it to load, but it crashed when I tried to view it in the model window. It would take more time than I have to spend on it at the moment to figure it out, but, maybe someone else is more adept at it than I am.
I hope you get it figured out.
Unfortunately AM does have a tendency to mungle files, that’s why I usually go into the directory and press CTRL+C CTRL+V to cut and paste (The pasted file is renamed with a number attached) so I have a backup.
Besides the text editor thing, which can be tricky, try to open the file in such a way as to avoid AM opening the window for it, sometimes files that crash on opening can be opened, and resaved if AM doesn’t try to render them on screen. If you open another file before AM won’t automatically display the next one, I think. If that works you can then resave it or try to selectively remove what might be causing the problem… good luck!
Alternatively, send it to hash support and ask them to fix it for you… worse thing can happen is they say no…
The correctet mdl (saved with v11.0t) you can found here. Please drop a note , when you have downloadet it , so I can remove them .
The problem was , that too many normals and patches with problems are saved in the originalfile . This to explain is a thing , that I can’t do with my bad english …
I hope , that it has helped also .

thank you very much, i really appreciate it. i was worried that i may have to rebuild the model. (which isn’t a bad thing, just time consuming)
so basically, due to my lack of modelling experience in AM, i somehow managed to damage my model file.
i understand, this has been very helpful. thank you again
i found it, its in the control points somewhere im sure
i’ve noticed that if i delete very specific control points and try to save, then the program will crash
…
maybe i can ignore them or something
Try “Refind Normals” after deleting this cp’s , then you can save the model . This function checks also the patches of correctness (and refind patches, if you have cracked some out while deleting the used cp’s), so you have the cance to save without a crash.
Kind Regards
